Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

However I have run several tanks of 95 RON when in the more remote parts of our fair island and the only thing to happen was a slight decrease in power as alluded to by Robert.

AFAIK - If you have full porsche service history then they will come and do a diagnostic check without charge.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

yesterday when I started the car up the warning light for "emission control" (the warnign light with with the engine shape) didnt go out after the usual 4 seconds and I am getting a message on the info screen saying "please drive to the nearest Porsche garage". Has anyone else had this problem before - what is it likely to be and is it expensive?
sounds like one of the emission sensors is faulty. I think it's about £400 to fix.
have a search on the forum, as this has come up a few times.
not sure if this is covered under warranty.
thanks. I have spoken with the garage where I bought the car and unsurprisingly they want to have a look at it. They asked me whether I have put cheap fuel in....and for the first time since having the car I put 95 RON in (from a supermarket)
. I have been advised to try putting a decent fuel additive in like "Forte" (???) and see if that recitifies the problem. The problem sarted about 40miles after putting this fuel in.
95 ron fuel will make no difference. It just makes the ECU slightly retard the ignition, hence marginally less power. Unless the fuel is contaminated, but that's another issue.
Sounds the garage building a case to worm out of liability.
If the lights have come up Call up Porsche Assist Breakdown and inform them of the situation and that you are unable to drive it.

This is the way forward if you think there garage is upto no-good...

I thought that 95RON is a supported fuel type. I'm fairly sure that manual states that 95-99 is approved.
Clearly states 98 RON on the inside of my filler cap. However I have run several tanks of 95 RON when in the more remote parts of our fair island and the only thing to happen was a slight decrease in power as alluded to by Robert.
diagnostics highlighted a misfire and inspection of the coil packs identified that 3 were cracked and the others were showing signs of deteriation. New coils fitted - job sorted
Good news that it was a quick fix and not anything serious - the cold weather really takes its toll on the electronic coil packs when they are getting a bit old.
apologies if this is a silly question, but what do coil packs do?
and if coil packs arent working properly, will the on board computer always show a malfunction? or would the car just drive around almost like normal?
Coil Packs do the same job as a distributor cap. They send the spark to the spark plugs in the correct order to ensure smooth running. If the coil packs start to fail (common problem and covered under warranty...... I think) then you will get a lumpy engine.
<waitstobecorrectedasicouldbetalkingoutofmyarse>
if they are not working corretly them you will get the emission control light lit up on the dash - this will be due to a misfire at low revs which you are unlikely to notice.....as in my case.
