Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I very much doubt it's the same thing as my handling wasn't noticably affected, it was the noise thing that prompted my reply.
Leading evidence: 'noise thing' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'noise thing' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check settings' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Just changed my rear tyres after kerbing one to avoid a head on with a truck, who's driver seemed to think he needed both lanes of a country road

Not being patronising at all - any suggestions are helpful: I bought a quattro coupe from an Audi dealer years ago and it had terrible handling that got worse and worse during the journey home, until I decided to drive it straight to the nearest Audi dealer: Turned out they hadn't tightened ANY of the wheelnuts after refurbishing the alloys!

I did have a good look and couldn't see anything obvious, and the tyre fitters I use are very fastidious.

could be worth taking it to a regular tyre place to check the settings

Had a good look at the suspension while they were changing tyres (they were down to about 2.5 mm anyway so I did both) and no signs of damage - nothing loose, bent, or visibly marked - and the tyre fitter is always very very fussy with balancing.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Had a good look at the suspension while they were changing tyres (they were down to about 2.5 mm anyway so I did both) and no signs of damage - nothing loose, bent, or visibly marked - and the tyre fitter is always very very fussy with balancing. However, I have a vibration directly related to vehicle speed and the handling seems to change suddenly as i push it through a corner... It feels a bit like having a rear slow puncture, but there obviously isn't one :?
Anyone got any ideas or experienced the same thing themselves?
PS. The wheel was checked and only has cosmetic damage.

Hope not, but could be
Will try the old wheel wobbling test... Is there a more scientific test for a knackered bearing that can be done at home?
Just because the tyres are new, does not mean there isn`t something wrong with one of them.
Are they the same tyres you had before ?
Are the wheel nuts tight ?
Sorry if these sound patronising, they aren`t meant to.
I've just been out with a Porsche tech guy this morning and now my car is in OPC west London for the same thing. It was making a weird noise from the rear and feared the worst ie drive train or transmission.
He drove down the A4/M4 for abit, heard the noise then stuck it neautral and engaged clutch, still noise so eliminated the gearbox. Then drove further, engaged clutch, neautral again and turned engine off at speed. Still noise, this eliminated the engine. We did this a couple of times and could hear it, especially at lower speeds. Anyway, he was 99% that it was a wheel bearing but there was a possibility it was within the differential. They're going to call later with details and cost
, hopefully it's under warranty.
Ade suggested to swerve left and right and see if the noise increases which I did but the noise was constant so that made me really nervous. You could try that.
Hope that helps.
Odd...
I would normally blame the driver
but the Geo could be off, as it's very easy to knock it out by a small degree and that can have an effect
could be worth taking it to a regular tyre place to check the settings
although for it to change during the corner ??????
I did have a good look and couldn't see anything obvious, and the tyre fitters I use are very fastidious. They are the same tyre and wheel nuts are all tight.
One front wheel only had one nut left when I arrived at the dealer!
Hope mine isn't that then - as I don't have a warranty
Not aware of any noises though, so hopefully something completely different.
Will brave the cold in a minute and try and have a proper look...

Fingers crossed for you...
Very odd... Had a good look - tyre pressures spot on, no 'play' in the bearing that I can detect with bare hands, tyres on the right way around... :?
Am now wondering if it is either geo, as SD suggested, or possibly driveshaft joint damage - although I don't see how that would explain the handling issue?
The handling thing is only really noticeable on tight right hand turns (or maybe that's just because of roundabouts). It feels as if the back wheel suddenly steps out to the side a few inches and then the car carries on as normal? In fact it is very similar to the feeling you get on the limit in a Carrera 4 - when more power transfers to the front - but at much, much lower speeds (even on a dry road).
Had a full geo earlier this year, but I guess the kerb may have upset it - I was doing about 50-60 at the point of impact
Thanks everyone for your suggestions - time to get my flexible friend out again I fear (and he was so looking forward to a break after Christmas  )
