Looks good. Maybe by 2020 I can afford one.
I like it too. The engine compartment lid area looks a little too busy compared to the smoothness of the rest of the car, otherwise, very pretty.
If it going to be MY2011, does this mean that deliveries will start in late 2010?
The Frankfurt show is every two years on odd years. The last show finished a few days ago so the next show is 9/011. This means that deliveries will start 11/11 for Europe and likely early 2012 for the US. Frankly this 911 does not seem promising, a rear engine car with a longer wheel base to make for bigger rear seats but dimensionally close to the predecessor because of less overhang. Shifting the weight forward means either placing the engine futher over the rear wheels or placing the driver/passenger closer to the front wheels. The engine lid shut lines flowing into the rear clip are just ugly. I've also heard that the 3.8L DFI is supposed to morph into a 4.0L. Frankly it would make more sense to abandon the 911 rear engine as the flagship and offer an upmarket re-badged "Cayman". It could still be called a Carrera and it would take very little R&D to produce. I would replace the rear hatch w/ a trunk like the Boxster for even more rigidity, add a 997 dash, drop in the 3.8L DFI, widen the fenders for 11-12" wheels, offer PASM sport, and of course PDK/manual trannies. I would also change the front fender and use the current 997 headlights w/ a more aggressive front clip like the GT2 or GT3. The 997 could still soldier on as a niche offering w/ the 911 and 911S badge. The GT1 block is on it's last legs and if Porsche wants to continue racing it might as well move away from the rear engine platform at this time.
DaveC for CEO of Porsche!!! Great ideas.
I second Santa Fe's idea.
