Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Check flaking around the bolts' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check flaking around the bolts' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've been checking this forum for a while now, and you guys all seem to know your stuff.
I've been looking at a millennium edition 996 with 60000 miles.
It needs new pads and disks, and has some oil leaks from the LH engine bank.
This is priced at £25500. What do you think, fair price or stay away due to the oil leaks?
I would get it checked out by a specialist - take a look at Peter Morgan and colleagues on
http://www.petermorgan.org.uk/index.html
The oil leak does sound worrying. New pads and disks should give you a lever to lower the price.
Is it at a general dealer, Porsche Specialist Indie or private sale? £25.5K would be a little expensive for a private sale, about right for an Indie.
Is it a manual or tip and what options were included? I know they have most boxes ticked but there was still room to personalise them. I have seen one with a GT3 body kit and mine has lowered sports suspension (Option 030), does it have the bling chromed wheels? - check for flaking around the bolts.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the advice.
It's a private sale, and the options it has are lowered suspension with sports exhaust. It is the tiptronic version.
I think everything else is standard for the model.
I live in the IOM, so having it checked out is not really an option.
I did have it checked out at one of our porsche "specialists", but information was as good as I gave you.
There is a touch of flaking on one wheel, but everything else is in good order.
I would want a more thorough explanation for the oil leaks before going any further to be honest. Otherwise it sounds OK. Just get a reduction for the brakes.
I'm currently looking for a 2000+ car with tiptronic. The ones I've seen at garages with warranties etc are mostly less than £25K so I would have thought that a private sale, even with the additional options - and especially with the problems you mentioned - would have to be a good bit less to persuade me to part with my hard-earned. All IMHO of course.
how bad is the oil leak, are you sure it's not the RMS?
Tiptronics don't usually suffer from RMS failures and I would be extremely worried about an oil leak, unless it was confirmed as superficial by an independent.
Personally, I would look around. There's plenty of options around for that sort of money.....especially this time of year.
I've decided against it, and am going through a local dealer instead.
I'm upgrading from a boxster 3.2 which has been perfect since i've owned it, so I don't want to go from that to a list full of problems.
