Some idiot had installed the disks on the wrong side and there were no shims.
Leading evidence: 'Install disks' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check condition of them' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Next I replaced the shims with new ones and all squeal disappeared (ok 90% of the squeal as they are RS29s).

Got the tyres changed today but the brakes under close inspection looked okay.

Also on a side note, Im also getting 285/30/18/ZR Mich N-1 rear tyres changed for £215 (inc) each at local fitters along with the front pad/disc.

The clips and spring kit i'd take with a pinch of salt, just check the condition of them and use your best judgement.......ie.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As the subject mentions, Im getting the front brake pad/disc and sensors changed this Saturday (due to brake disc corroded) on the C4.
I was recc by Indy to also do the brake pads in case of uneven wear.
Called up OPC parts to order the part and he mentioned that changing the "shims" and taking the "kit set" is also strongly recc.
The kit set contains clips and springs that he reported usually break during changing process.
I just wanted to work out what the purposes of the "shims" are? Can I get away with not changing these and what exactly are their purpose and is this "kit" also necessary (OPC goes, not everyone usaully takes these)?
I posted this Q re shims in another thread, but cant find it to see if there was a response. I think Sundeep you may of replied to this Q?
Cheers!

I've tried not using the shims when I was using Pagid RS29s and it squealed like mad, I tried reusing the shims and it didn't do much else except introduce a slightly spongy feel, they are adhesive and reuse is a little troublesome. Next I replaced the shims with new ones and all squeal disappeared (ok 90% of the squeal as they are RS29s).
I initially thought they were a waste of money but I would strongly recommend using a new set each pad change as they really do work.
The clips and spring kit i'd take with a pinch of salt, just check the condition of them and use your best judgement.......ie. lots of rust etc
They are indeed, anti-squeal shims. The pin set is optional but the pin is prone to rusting, so might need replacing, as might the little "R" clip. Unfortunately, the spring, clip and pin all come as one package. You should also have the caliper bolts replaced as well.
Agree with everything that has been said. The calliper bolts get very hot and they become quite elastic over time. The installer should really retap the threads to make sure that corss-threading is avoided as this could end up being very costly. The bolts are specially heat treated so don't make the mistake of lettig someone put in standard ones - get them from OPC. When I bought my C4S in the summer the shims were missing and my brakes squealed badly - I was embarassed driving through town. Once I installed the shims the squeal went away and the steering became more stable.

small amount of corrosion on the front brake disc but informed that this is okay and they should last at least a few more months (or few thousand miles) before considering changing.
All well for me as the pads are only a 1/3 thru.
Will def keep in mind the point raised about the bolts!
Cheers!!
Caliper bolts should not be reused. They are designed to stretch and self-lock in place so reusing shouldn't be an option. For only £11 per axle peace-of-mind is priceless!
When the disks are really badly corroded you'll get a lot of vibration under heavy braking. Damian is correct - change your bolts as well as the shims when you change the pads.
Unfortunately there are a lot of cowboys out there - when I acquired my C4S in the summer it had new disks and pads. Some idiot had installed the disks on the wrong side and there were no shims. If you look at the disks on your car you will see that the cross drilling is on an arc which means that the disk shold be installed on the correct side to ensure that it throws out water when it's wet.
