I'm just toying with the idea (as i do every winter when the 993 is parked up and not being used) of buying a 911 that i can use all year and part of me fancies a change as well.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

or "engine failure " issues ? like a regular 996?

POST 2Original post

from what i have read the GT1 derived block (TT/GT3) is far less susceptable to rms but it has been known... debating a upgrade to water Fuchs? ;-)

POST 3Original post

RMS issues - I read somewhere that it doesn't, neither does the GT3. As for engine failures, am sure some have failed for other reasons but dont think RMS is one of those reasons. Not even sure if the engines have an RMS.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

"The world is my lobster"

POST 5Original post

Excellent description. A RMS problem isn't the end of the world, it's not a sign of impending engine failure, it's a little leak that could drop a little oil on the clutch plate in rare cases.

POST 6Original post

Yeah, but it's a great source of warranty revenue for OPCs though!

POST 8Original post

yeh and a good way of getting a cheap new clutch! ;-)

POST 9Original post

I have not heard of many (if any) cases of RMS problems on the GT1 block..

POST 10Original post

I only know of one RMS leak ever on a TT or GT3

POST 11Original post

Time to spill the beans Warren.. What you got your eye on ?

POST 14Original post

Lets not be so broad here! Some of us could have nightmares if he comes forth with that sort of information

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

LOL -@ Jay  Ok i'll come clean (oooer). I'm just toying with the idea (as i do every winter when the 993 is parked up and not being used) of buying a 911 that i can use all year and part of me fancies a change as well. So following that thought then it really needs to be something that is 4 wheel drive, therefore a TT or a 4S. I've seen a lovely 993 4S with a 3.8 but i think it would be a shame to use that all year round. So i started loking at 996 tt's and they really do represent good value at the moment - i'm seeing cars with less than 80 k km's for about 80000 chfs...........for example http://www.autoscout24.ch/AS24Web/D...eto=80000&zipcountry=CH&total=27&page=1&row=7 or http://www.autoscout24.ch/AS24Web/D...eto=80000&zipcountry=CH&total=27&page=1&row=6 So folks we have option a. keep the 993 and send it off to Ruf next year for a re-spray and one of their switchable sport exhausts and use it in summer with my vr6 for winter use. Option b. sell both 993 and VR6 and buy a 996 tt for all round use. Option c(linked to option a.). keep 993, get respray and when vr6 dies but a new Fiat 500 / Polo gti for winter use. option d. if the 996 tt isnt really up to full on winter use then sell the 993 and Vr6 and buy an audi RS4/6. Part of me thinks i should follow option a. but its a bit of a pain running 2 cars (3 including Mrs fuchs merc), but i dont know if im man enough to put any Porsche through a Swiss winter year after year. Confused? thats my middle name. Indecisive? thats my first name. Sometimes having too many options is not a good thing. Factor into the equasion if we do buy the apartment i talked about in my other post then my monthly disposable income suddenly increases rather nicely. Dave - is the 996 tt 4x4 system lockable - i.e do you think it will cope with snow/slush/ice etc?
