Its a pity that my other key has seen better days and was on the list to get replaced anyway.

If it is rapid-flashing, you can try resetting the remote processor.

Due to a rather odd set of circumstances my wife needs to use the car but the key at home does not have a functional battery so can't operate the remote CL.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Due to a rather odd set of circumstances my wife needs to use the car but the key at home does not have a functional battery so can't operate the remote CL. But does opening the car manually with the key disable the alarm as it would using the fob or will the door open but the alarm go off? The car was locked with the fob.
If that works I'll be in slightly less trouble than I currently am!
The manual says: "Unlocking the vehicle by using the key in the door lock may activate the alarm system within 10 seconds".
Note that it does say "may". Up to you if you want to let her find out............ [

Hi,
I have a similar problem. My main key battery expired. So had to or rather my wife had to use the key to unlock the car. Yes I can confirm after approx 10 seconds the alarm was activated. Guess what, she did not find that at all amusing. Anyway I replaced the battery and now the remote on the key does not work! The red light comes on when the key fob is pressed but nothing happens. So we are using the key and 10 second start up. Is this going to be a job for a dealer to reprogram the key. Or is there some quick fix I can try myself?
Cheers Steve
My battery has recovered and I found a spare solar charger so this now sit on the back shelf and I just plug it in when I park up. So far a week hasn't caused any issues.
The red LED on the key should rapid-flash when you press the button. If it is just coming on, but not flashing, then the remote has gone to lunch (and won't be back).
If it is rapid-flashing, you can try resetting the remote processor. Take out the coin battery, and insert it the wrong way up for 2-3 seconds. Then put it back the right way and see if it works. If not, then you need a new key head, which will require programming by a Porsche Centre, or a good independent.
Richard,
Many thanks for your usual expert advise.
I will try your suggestions. Its a pity that my other key has seen better days and was on the list to get replaced anyway. If your suggestions do not work then the old girl, the car not the wife is due a service so will add key head/heads to the list.
Will let you know how I get on.

Hi,
Well I tried the various suggestions and none were successful in returning the remote to working order. The tip to turn the key in the door clockwise and hold it there for a few mins works. It does seem to give more time to start the car before the alarm is activated. I have the car booked in for a service next week so will what they can do. Looking more like new remote fobs will be required. Thanks again for all the suggestions. If the garage looking after the service come up with a clever answer I share that with you guys.
Richard the garage also suggested that reversing the battery for a few seconds might work. But no luck for me. Still rapid-flash when the button is pressed but no response from the car!
Thanks.
Update on the key fobs.
Yes both have had it! Will be getting them replaced when the garage complete some extra work on my car in the next few weeks. I am now using the key in the door. Turning it clockwise for approx 30 seconds. Then opening the door and starting the car. Only once have the windows wound themselves down. Anyway that seems to stop the alarm going off. However I then cannot open the boot, petrol flap or engine cover. I then have to turn off the ign. With the doors closed activate the "panic" lock button on the dash and then turn it off. That then unlocks the boot etc. This process seems to cause some hilarity with my "sensible car" owning friends.
Thanks again for all the suggestions.
Steve
