Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

1

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Suggestion

Also, while I'm not a fan of MAF cleaning -- with a stock air intake system and an air filter the MAF never needs cleaning -- with the aftermarket air intake system and air filter the MAF could have become fouled with oil thus a cleaning might be called for.

I let it run for a few and drive home with no issue.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The other day I took my car through a brushless car wash. When I left, I went to accelerate to jump into traffic. It fell flat on its face at 5k RPM in 1st. Shift to 2nd and the same thing. It wouldn't go past 5k at WOT. I get back to work and open the hood and notice some water on the sock of my intake (car has a K&N cold air intake). I leave it open and let the car dry off. Crank it later that day and the idle was a little choppy at first, then smoothed out fine. I let it run for a few and drive home with no issue. Car pulled strong through the entire rev range. Everything was back to normal. Fast forward maybe a week a the check engine light comes on. Code is P1128. I cleared the code and about 10 minutes into another drive it comes back Could the two be related? Something to do with the water? any other ideas? AOS? Car runs fine aside from the CEL

Engine is running lean. Could be from an intake air leak which includes a bad AOS, low fuel pressure, intake hose leak, loose oil filler tube cap (or a leaking one -- on my 296K mile Boxster I've had to replace the oil filler tube cap twice now -- it wear out and leaks), or a bad MAF. If the MAF was exposed to water from the car wash and the aftermarket air filter system this could have damaged the MAF. If you have an OBD2 code reader/data viewer you can view the MAF reading in real time. At idle it should be steady and increase with RPMs and then at a steady RPM remain steady. If it doesn't... Also, while I'm not a fan of MAF cleaning -- with a stock air intake system and an air filter the MAF never needs cleaning -- with the aftermarket air intake system and air filter the MAF could have become fouled with oil thus a cleaning might be called for. If you elect to try the MAF cleaning you can do this first as it costs you only a bit of time and an aerosol can of a non-residue electronics cleaner. Handle the MAF with care and this includes the wiring. Drop the MAF, or static discharge into the MAF connector or the wiring harness connector, break a MAF wiring connector pin or wire and the cost goes up substantially.

POST 3Original post

Others can help with code, but try Google. I'm guessing water and coils don't get along. So maybe a bad coil pack?

Never mind. Does sound like MAF after googling.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys, I'll start with the MAF

POST 6Original post

Years ago, I bought a MAF spray cleaner, but it only worked temporarily. Problem solved with a new MAF.
