Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I changed for the reason Adrien mentioned but didn't want the B&M's reduction or the Manthey cost...

If so, what are your feelings now and did you change the cables as you were planning ?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The Porsche one is made of plastic and is liable to disintegrate. I've seen this happen twice, and both at the worst possible time. Luckily, the drivers escaped unhurt as the car coasted to a halt.
There are better made short shifters out there, but the action varies. The B&M one has a very short throw (-35%) and is made of metal... some say the throw is too short. I have the Manthey one (-23%) and is made of billet aluminium - I find it just right.
Neither are as cheap as the Porsche plastic one though.
  Point taken, although answers following yours by Polar are the reason I like to get upto date answers to questions.
Thanks Polar, do you happen to know a rough price for the Manthey one and did you fit yourself !
I've got an EVOMS which is -20%, once the car has warmed up the action feels really nice, can be a bit stiff when cold though. I changed for the reason Adrien mentioned but didn't want the B&M's reduction or the Manthey cost...
If you check the 'garage' section you can see other forum members cars and what mods they've done. Usually they'll list prices and where they were purchased/ installed. That's what I've done and has been a very, very helpfull resource.
Thanks for that Damian, very interesting ! Perhaps I should put Shortshift in the search next time as Quickshift brought up 2 and 1 of them was mine
Have you still got the 997 shift fitted now ? If so, what are your feelings now and did you change the cables as you were planning ?
Exactly, don't thing a '99 C4 warrented such race engineering, then again as Adrien as noted in another post ''buy cheap, buy twice'' (I like that saying...)
