Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussionโ€™s subject.

Suspected cause

It might be possible to save the bore if the piston was replaced (likely the protective coating on the sidewall of the piston has failed, allowing metal to metal contact.) This is early enough that from the top, it appears it could be rescued, but you would want to consider that in the price (perhaps $10k just to do that one cylinder) and you want to look at the bottom of the bore from under the engine with a probe (not so easy to do, which is why it's rarely done.)

Leading evidence: 'protective coating' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'protective coating' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace (likely the protective coating' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hey ladies and gents. First time P-car purchase and these are the results of the borescope inspection. Car has 115,000km on it, and is otherwise in immaculate condition. Should I walk away? Looks like cylinder 6 has the worst of it. Car is a 2006 S, manual, priced at $35k CAD. Cylinder 1 Cylinder 2 Cylinder 4 Cylinder 5 Cylinder 3 Cylinder 6

POST 2Original post

I would keep looking. Cylinder 6 doesn't look healthy.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
