Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
After a short urban drive (max 30mph) for 30 mins as I was turning right into a road from standstill the car started making a screeching sound as if the handbrake was on from the front. The lever was down and it wasn't as if the car was struggling so dont think its the brakes.
Luckily I was turning into my road, into the drive to the garage it just kept screeching if going straight but more pronounced when turning right. Havent noticed any odd behaviour from the car, no warning lights, brakes seem ok. Too dark to check now but anyone have any ideas?
Brakes changed 8 months ago and have only covered 5k miles since then, mostly m-way. Although last week did have to emergency stop at 40 mph when a fox ran out infront. So I am gentle with her.
Any ideas what it could be?
I wonder if you have a stone between the disc and pad. I had this on my car and makes a real screetching sound, which is quite worrying.
A quick drive around the block cleared it, but it will score the disc if you're not careful.
I got a stone lodged like that recently, mad the most gut renching sound ever, like metal on metal. I actually called Porsche assist out as it freaked me so much, by the time the guy got to me and I pulled away (very slowly) the stone had dislodged itself and left me red faced. Oh well, better safe than sorry.

stones
cheers guys, will take a look tomorrow to see if I can find the stone. Hope it is just that as have a week off week after next and want to go away with the car for that break.
One other thing to check is the thin metal plate behind the disks - I can't remember if the 996 has them on the front as well, or just the rear. I had a lump of rubber hit one on a track day and it made an awful noise ntil I realised what it was and bent it back away from the disc.
no fox
haha no foxes jammed. Just to let you know the screeching has gone after a bit of a drive. Was initially worried as first thing sounded a bit rough on front left wheel, like metal on metal grating but after 5 mins cleared up and all looks and feels good.
Was a bit worried though.
Cheers again.
