Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suspected cause
You point about the chalkiness is probably the main reason I would not go with the matte, now that I’m looking at it.
Leading evidence: 'main reason i would not go' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'main reason i would not go' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check (just snapped some quick pics' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Super crude color check (just snapped some quick pics on my way out of the office before heading home).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I’m considering adding some stripes to my Atlas Grey
Cayman
but am debating on the color. I’d like to go with something really subtle, almost like a ghost stripe, but maybe a simple black would do? It would color wise like up with the various black trim bits and also the calipers, but I’m open to ideas.
I’m fond of this style of stripe, fwiw (no side stripe).
Just wondering if someone more aesthetically inclined than me had some thoughts
I think the grey stripes would look nice on the Atlas Grey; black stripes as well, which might give you the “ghost stripe” you’re looking for.
Matte black could be a nice texture contrast. From some angles, you may not see the stripe, but then when the sun hits the car at the right angles, the stripe would be more apparent. On the other hand, the matte black may be too much of a contrast because of how it reflects light differently than your paint. Maybe gloss black would work better for this magic trick.
You may want to try a couple samples (they’re like 6x6 or 12x12in) from a vinyl wrap company to see how certain colors look against your paint. This could clear up how the gloss vs matte black might reflect in the sun.
Love the color btw.
Good suggestion on getting some scrap samples. I’ll see if I can grab something soon. Your musings sound very similar to my own…
thanks for sharing your thoughts! 👍
Really like it. Do share pics when you have them on. I've considered stripes as a someday on my black

. I know they don't look a ton different but I feel like 987s are just made to have well done stripes.
Super crude color check (just snapped some quick pics on my way out of the office before heading home). I tried to place the samples where there was both shade and sun to see any changes.
Gloss Black
Matte Black
Dark-ish metallic grey
Medium silver
Bright silver (similar to the wheel silver)
I also have access to quite a few other colors, but none of them really jumped out at me (blues, yellows, etc). I’ll have to look for a dark midnight blue, though.
I know the pictures are pretty rough, but curious about folks thoughts.
I like the dark metallic gray. I might would like the matte but am turned off my the chalky look to it. If it doesn't have that installed it might look as good.
You point about the chalkiness is probably the main reason I would not go with the matte, now that I’m looking at it. Matte finishes are just a pain to keep clean.
On my cousins yellow charger he had stripes that faded. When he pulled them off the yellow underneath was much brighter than the rest of the car. So I would think it is very possible overtime. A ceramic coating or PPF would help with that.
