Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys, 99 986. So the switch up top where the top latches in is broken - if I jiggle it or smack it really hard, the top will move again but most of the time it's dead. Is there a way for me to bypass/disable this sensor completely? I've been literally wiring 12V to fuse 25/27 under the wheel every time I want to open/close the top.

POST 2Original post

Try cleaning it first with contact cleaner, or just replace it, it's only about $60 and will take half an hour, part number 98661379502. Remove 'alien eye' plastic covers, unscrew torx bolts hidden behind them, whole latch assembly comes out. Replace the microswitch assembly using the couple of speed nuts provided, bolt back up in reverse.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found it. Hairline fracture in the microswitch. Flux and solder solved it
