Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I'd try to find somebody nearby with a Durametric or similar to check for issues.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Update: the 2 clicks on the key remote didn't work ..!
I connected up my freshley charged battery to my 98 996 yesterday and the alarm went bonkers. Reading this forum advised me to turn the ignition key to the 1st position and reconnect, this all went well. Took the old girl for a drive and when i lock the car i get a single beep..... a minute or so later i got 2 beeps. ignored this and sat down to watch some Tennis. About 3 hours later the alarm went off. Can't even remember how i got it to shut up.... probably just started the car. I don't see anything open.... all i see is the radio asking for the code. Resorted to disconnecting the battery for the time being.
Car opens and locks fine with the remote button on the key.
Any ideas on this problem please.
Thanks
Stumped you lot then...
Could it be an interior alarm.? As the lights were not flashing when all hell broke loose. If so is there a way to turn off the interior alarm until i can find the fault.?
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Further reading seems to indicate that 2 quick clicks will disable the interior alarm. I shall give that a try.
Update: the 2 clicks on the key remote didn't work ..! Whilst washing the car the bloody thing went off again. I get 1 beep on locking the car, then a double beep about 10 seconds later. Radio is coded, all lids shut, cubby shut, windows all good....i'm stumped. :?:
Try this
Lock the car and allow it to "beep"
Unlock the car and leave it, don't open any doors. After 30 seconds or so it will re-lock but does not arm the alarm so no sirens going off.
Not a fix but will prevent false alarms until you get to the bottom of the issue.
So i have read. I have nothing open. Possible microswitch seems to be a possible although everything works as normal, windows, doors lock etc. My 70 car seems a joy compared to these electronic cars.

If it's on the standard door actuators, my money would be on at least one of them, usually drivers side first. Mine were early ones and an Audi TT part, so only around £30 each. You just look for the 9 pin ones if I remember.
