I use sport mode largely because of the extra cooling, it drives briskly enough in normal mode.

Sports+ means you have the chrono clock - the hands fall of the analogue clock due to heat from the PCM ( approx £800 to replace )

If the car has PASM it then also changes the settings for that for Sport and Sports Plus, which can be overridden I believe (I don't have PASM so don't know for sure

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

How important would everyone say it is : 991 can't have it retro fitted (unlike my 997 GTS) because of the dynamic engine mounts (well I'm sure there's a way at extreme cost but nothing sensible).
what price differential for a non Chrono car? presumably just harder to move on but no impossible if otherwise well kept, service and blah...
Not sure about the engine mounts, would had thought so. Otherwise it's going to add the centre console/steering wheel button but not the clock on the dashboard

I don't ever consider the sports chrono a must have option.
Upgraded sound system is nice.
PSE is really nice.
PASM is also nice, not that I ever put them in firm mode.
Sports Chrono? Nah.
I would almost consider it a bonus to not to have the active mounts until there are a few cheap fixes for them.

I would see it as an advantage, so much so I made a point of buying a car without it, don't need the engine mounts hassles.
If you have found a car with everything you want and no Chrono I would say you have had a result.

Funny how people differ
Without sports Chrono, PDK is as limp as a wet noodle.
On the other hand, I wouldn’t own a car with PASM.
Variety is wonderful.
The PASM just makes the car a bit more compliant at lower speeds and round town and give the opportunity to add a dsc controller and tweak it how you like it rather than mess around with new dampers and springs.
But I would not ignore a car that didn't have them.
Regarding Sports Chrono in the 991.1, I thought that what it really added was Sports Plus? And of course the clock.
I thought that all PDK cars come with the sports mode in the 991.1 gen? So you get sportier gear shifting and the sport throttle map, what you don't get is the gears holding on at red line and the even more aggressive throttle map?
I have been looking for a 991.1 for a while and considering a PDK too, and presumed this was the case? Which would be fine for me, but if you don't get sport with a non chrono car I will need to start getting more picky.
This car on autotrader has no options looks like it has the SPORTS button/mode with no sports chrono.

all cars have a sport button. Mine does not have chrono and it has it.
I've a 981BS with Sports Chrono.
SC gives you PADM, Stopwatch on the dash, Launch control and additional screen on the cluster and Sports Plus mode button (in addition to the Sport button that is standard.
I understand it is possible to add (via PIWIS coding) the Sports Plus functionally (mapping / Launch control / cluster screen and physically add the Sports Plus Button. e.g.
https://rennlist.com/forums/981-forum/1183375-981-...
You can also physically add the Stopwatch to the dash.
The only thing that can't be added afterwards is the PADM, and why would you bother

And it sharpens the throttle a bit and holds onto gears longer?
Throttle wire map changes
Holds gears longer
Sportier shifting
Firms up the suspension
Opens PSE valves
Adds the overrun noises
Sports+ does all that, but to a sportier level
It also completely removes the overrun noises

You have 3 modes, Normal, Sport and Sport Plus
Sport give you on top of normal:
Different gear mapping (if PDK) holds onto gears slightly longer and gives more sporty downshifts
Slightly quicker gear changes
Engages Sports exhaust if fitted
Give pops and crackles on downshifts
Disables Stop Start and Coast function
More slip on the traction control before it kicks in
Sports Plus gives you on top of Sport:
PADM (Active transmission mounts (research these on here or elsewhere)
Dashboard Clock
Even faster gear changes
Reduces pops and bangs and goes for max performance
Launch control
Gears held till redline (although most move to manual mode if they want to use this mode)
Even more slip from traction control
If the car has PASM it then also changes the settings for that for Sport and Sports Plus, which can be overridden I believe (I don't have PASM so don't know for sure
also
Sports+ means you have the chrono clock - the hands fall of the analogue clock due to heat from the PCM ( approx £800 to replace )
Sports+ Means you get active gearbox dampers - these fail frequently. I've had 3 fail in 40k (approx £2000 each to replace but can be coded out by a willing Indi)
Sports+ Turns off the PSE, although can be turned back on.
Sports+ gives you launch control - never used it as you also need to be in Auto mode and I drive in manual mode.
Thanks for this, it's a very good summation.

With all the spec variations on a 991 I considered the most important things for me and found the car accordingly. I ended up with a GTS so it has the Sport Chrono etc. as standard (I think!)
FWIW, the PSE and Sport mode is great to switch into for what i would say is the real 911 experience. I never use Sport Plus or the adaptive damper stiffening.
I do like the sport chrono clock on the dashboard, i've seen that people have retrofitted that for the time function and looks.
So for me, a car with just PSE would be fine.

Agree and that's what I personally went for.
When I feel like pushing a bit I drive it in manual mode and gear changes are definitely fast enough for me. Much faster than manual can be, and for the road it's plenty. Downshifts are quick and with PSE they make a nice noise.
A couple of things Sport Plus also does that I didn t spot above:
It maintains torque between gear changes, giving the car a noticeable kick. Some people like the aggressive feel; others might not.
Also it doesn t soften the power delivery as the engine approaches the redline - so if you hit the limiter, you ll hit it hard.
I bought a 991.1 C2S PDK a month or so back. No Sport Chrono, but has PSE, PASM, Bose. Never use the PASM in anything other than softest, always shift manually and drive always in Sport, mostly with the PSE active (turn it off through villages etc). Personally I think the dashboard looks much cleaner without the Chrono (I had it on my 07 Cayman S, never used it).
I have a 991.1 C4S (bought it last year) and it has the chrono dial which I've never used. I didn't seek this out, but it just came with it.
Faced with a choice between identical cars with or without, people are going to choose 'with' - because it's an extra.
I use sport mode largely because of the extra cooling, it drives briskly enough in normal mode.

Not so sure about that, I did the exact opposite and I am not alone - the fact that active engine mounts are more trouble than they are worth is hardly a secret nowadays.
Even if you are not paying for them (warranty) who needs or wants the hassle, I didn’t.
