Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I hate it, don't use it, and would rather have the change cup in there.
Leading evidence: 'Replace cup in there' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace cup in there' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've done a bit of internet searching and found some info on adding cupholders.
I think what I've decided to do is relocate my HVAC controls down to the center console where the CD tray is and put the Porsche stock cup holders below the vents. I will just live without the CD trays. Since I have option 680 which is DSP the HVAC controls can't go all the way in the bottom of the console, but I see no reason why they can't go just above the DSP making room for the cup holders up at the top.
Thoughts? Ideas? Options? Pics of this job already done?
Pfft. All that work and money. I just found a link to the BMW ultimate cupholder. Fifty bucks, installs in 1 minute and holds coffee cups with a handle.
Job done, money on the way.
I have this one and I like it a lot. It's around $60 shipped and it just fits snuggly in the gap in the console with no installation or changes. Pulls out easily when you don't want it. A very simple but elegant solution.

Btw - It has no bottom so it won't hold a can, just cups and some bottles.
I don't know, why do you? Were you bottle fed as a babe? Did you loose a bet with your life partner? Is there a midget wearing a tutu and heels hitting you with a pink whip while holding a squirt gun to your head?
I've made my purchase, thanks for the info.
All I know is, the PO put in one of those dual slide out cupholders where the little pocket was. Pelican, I think?
1st problem, it'll only hold a 12 oz can or small water bottle. Barely, and neither is secure enough to drive with.
2nd issue, when extended, it hits the shifter in 3rd and 5th, and has rubbed the silver off the top of the shift ****.
I hate it, don't use it, and would rather have the change cup in there.
It might have something to do with the fact that it's kind of...ugly...and defacing the armrest so you can carry a beverage in a fairly awkward orientation doesn't get the rest of us as moist as it does you.
Or it could be something else entirely...
^ Fair enough. Certainly not as clean as an unadulterated console cover but in my opinion better than the other options and more functional. It doesn't sit in front of my vents and I don't have to reach down in the passenger footwell to get my beverage. It obviously doesn't rub against the gear shift. It holds a solo very securely and doesn't spill unless there's not enough ice. For my orientation my elbow rests against the front lip of the cover so I'm not giving up anything.
All of this.....I believe it's more functional then all the add-ons that in my opinion look more out of place than my cover with holes punched in it. I bought the console cover on eBay, cut the holes and had it re-upholstered so saved my original Savannah Beige cover to convert it back if someone wanted to.
Five years ago there would have been a plethora of responses "Why would you want a drink holder in a fine performance automobile" so thankfully we're passed that nonsense. The obvious solution would have been if Porsche would have integrated one like every other 911 after the Mk 1 996's. Since they didn't we've pursued "custom" options. I accept your criticism and remain open-minded but prefer my solution.
Serendipity. I got home from airplane shopping tonight and my cupholders had arrived.
It required 2.4 minutes to install them.
My large travel mug with handle fits perfect.
And I love them.
Once again the world is spinning in greased grooves.
I too am glad that the "it's not a restaurant, it's a PORSCHE" crap has subsided. That's right up there with the "why do you need a RADIO? You can just listen to the amazing soundtrack of that flat six [blah blah blah] [simper simper]" crap that seems to make its way into EVERY audio thread.
While your cup holder design ain't for me, it's well-made - I apologize for glossing over that fact in my rush to be an ***.
Alright guys, this is RL so cup holder threads need at least minimum of rehashed 3 pages of content.
I personally think this is a good and simple idea for driver's that only occasionally bring drinks onboard. It's more accessible(notice the ultimate cup holder below) and doesn't get in the way of anything. You remove it when you don't need it and stash it under the seat. Out of site, out of mind. There's also a dual cup version. Just another option.
I agree with Alpine and have the same "Tow Hook" cup holder which is great. Mine is in black though so it blends in better than bright yellow. The only thing is that it does not work with smaller cups as they slide right through the "hook".
I have the retrofit kit as well (yes THREE cup holders). It is a bit delicate and is best for smaller cups. I use it for paper cappuccino cups and it works great. You have to be gentle when you press on it to bring the holder out and put it away, if you are not, i would expect it could break.
Sadly, the retrofit for 99 kit does not work with cars having option 680 which is the DSP stereo stuff. I have option 680 - so no fit. I suppose I could just get rid of the CD tray holder, and move the HVAC head down where that was, then put the cupholder kit in, but alas, too late I bought and installed the Ultimate cupholder product.
I know it's too late but most peeps with DSP just tuck it and hide it behind the console. I don't know too many that fiddle with the buttons anyways. I believe many if not all of the '01s at least came with the din cup holders right above the radio.
Correct as you have a '99 as stated but people move these down all the time to the lower console to put in the retrofit cup holders. It's very easy to do.
Well, something would have to go, in my case that would be the CD tray holder. Which is no great loss as I don't have any CDs in there right now, but it's a nice place for a sunglass or cell phone snuggy. Anyway, the deed is done, the ulitmate cupholders are in, the money is spent, and this is all academic now. I'm very happy with the solution I have, and it fits my tall coffee cup with handle perfectly. I also note that the ultimate cupholders can be either expanded or contracted just a bit in order to fit one of those thirstytwo ounce big gulp if I so desire. Not sure if the Porsche deal would support that massive load under spirited driving.
