While that went well the backup lights aren't functioning and I found that the wiring to the reverse switch was not only disconnected but missing.

Can source a new switch plug with pigtail and can splice it into an existing broken harness (spent my career in electronics and much of that time was designing/building/repairing wire harnesses, easy peezy).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

This is going to be an odd one. Recently purchased a 2006 Cayman S that had the clutch replaced by the previous owner. While that went well the backup lights aren't functioning and I found that the wiring to the reverse switch was not only disconnected but missing. Pulling my hair out trying to find it. Figured the best place is to start at the source and work my way back to the switch plug. Wondering if anyone here knows where it sources from (engine bay?).

POST 2Original post

Yeah, tracing it back is the only thing I can tell you to do. Start at the top of the transmission. It may be stick up there somewhere. Hopefully it's not pinched between the bell housing and engine block. Because that would SUUUUUUCK.

POST 3Original post

Even that I can deal with. Can source a new switch plug with pigtail and can splice it into an existing broken harness (spent my career in electronics and much of that time was designing/building/repairing wire harnesses, easy peezy). But need a source to work with! Not sure if the signal lead comes from the rear body control module under the driver seat or from under the dash. Believe the other switch lead goes to chassis ground.

POST 4Original post

i don't know much about that switch, but maybe this wiring diagram will help you figure it out.

POST 5Original post

Thanks! I found this schematic last night and started poking about the left side of the engine bay. Really need to get it up on a lift to do this right.

POST 6Original post

The reverse light switch is on the right (passenger) side of the transmission housing, underneath the shift cable.

POST 7Original post

That part I know. What's missing is the electrical connector and associated harness. Someone forgot to plug the connector back into the switch when re-installing the tranny after changing the clutch. Can't find the doggone plug and harness!

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
