Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

All attempts to trigger the system to relearn failed until I used an actual TPMS tool.
Leading evidence: 'Use actual tpms tool' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'process would be the same' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check psi' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

This is the method I used - there is a person on eBay that will do a short-term (10 days) rental of a Durametric Pro for a very reasonable price.

Suggestion
Google AI says that you need Durametric Pro to reprogram it, and that you set both Instrument Cluster and Gateway modules to "Not Installed" for the TPMS entry.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I performed this several times, went for a drive and still no change.
Hello All,
Yes, I have read all the posts that I could find and also tried several of the suggestions to no avail.
2009 base
cayman
. 40K Spiritedly driven on twisty mountain roads.
The car is and has been awesome with zero issues and meticulously maintained.
The other day, I cleared a service light with my trusty
ICarsoft
reader.
Although I did not reset any other parameter, the TPMS system stopped reading the tire psi.
I performed the dash reset, tire size/summer/etc.
The system then only read the passenger side, but with wrong psi.
I performed this several times, went for a drive and still no change.
The display reads, "learning and not active"
I have left it for quite a while and still no change.
I am getting ready for new tires soon and besides any ideas or suggestions for a solution to this issue, have this question.
Has anyone just not installed the tire sensors and will the TPMS system, go nuts with alarms as it tries to locate the tires.
I think it will!
Ex racer here, so always hand check PSI before sorties.
Also, very rural where I live, as in Porch, so dealers are 100 miles away.
Apologies for the book and thank you, ALL in advance!!
You will definitely get the exclamation point warning on your dash. The solution is to unplug the TPMS unit in the frunk, and then code it as not existing using a
PIWIS
, Durametric Pro, or similar tool. You're basically telling the car that it does not have TPMS installed.
Hello Racergreg,
Awesome and thank you for the super quick response !
Would you know if my
ICarsoft
will work to disable it? I'll give it a try in any event.
That sounds like the best solution and I do have the service manual so should be able to find the TPMS unit in the frunk.
Folks like you are what make this forum so valuable, informative, time and $ saving.
Kudos to you, Sir!
No "hack" needed. You go into
PIWIS
or other capable device (
Foxwell
) and remove the TPMS from the gateway module IIRC... it could be somewhere else. But, once disabled, the car doesn't try to talk to it... so it's effectively turned off. No hardware removal needed.
Hello Schwinn,
Thank you!
I take it that the
PIWIS
is a pro level scanner/diagnostic tool.
I have a trusty
ICarSoft
unit that I use for routine maintenance, but I don't think that it is capable of disabling the TPMS.
The nearest dealer is 115 miles away, so I'll inquire with their service department to see if they would do that.
With all the liability issues these days, I am curious to see if even paying for the service they would.
Thank you, again!
The Planet-9 community is always super helpful and educational.
PIWIS
is
Porsche
's programmer... there are threads around on how to get this working for you, at a low cost.
Foxwells are great for the 987-series, as it supports a lot of things on this platform, but less on the others (I think the mfg just gave up, unfortunately).
iCarSoft
may be similarly capable... I don't know. I believe Durametric can do this as well.
I'd expect the dealer would not disable it for you.
Foxwell
is about $150 (be careful with model numbers - they don't all do PROGRAMMING of the
Porsche
. I use the
NT530
which works well.).
PIWIS clones
are lower cost, but require more effort (laptop, a little computer knowledge for the VM, etc)... but we're all happy to help.
If you're near someone with a suitable device, that's another option... I'm in central CT, for example, if you want to meet and try that...

Google search shows you this result, fyi...
The latest
Porsche
software on the NT710 now supports some rather extensive programming on my '11 Cayenne. Enough to get me out of self-caused trouble trying to turn folding mirrors on using a
PIWIS-III
. That's the 2nd car the
PIWIS
has porked up, getting rescued by
Foxwell
(making it a very worthwhile purchase since both of them would have required a dealer visit to get sorted out and working correctly again.)
And ChatGPT - lies. It gave me detailed instructions on how to enable the mirror-fold function on the Cayenne, and that went wrong with the first step ("Open the Body Control Module menu" - there is no BCM on the 958 series Cayenne
PIWIS
menu, and there actually is NO BCM in the car..)
I'll be editing my review of using ChatGPT with
PIWIS-III
. Basically it's expert sounding bullpoop.
I experienced a similar dashboard error on my
2021 Cayman
GTS
after replacement of the rear tires. I had elected to reused the OE TPMS sensors, but unfortunately the wheels got reversed and then couldn't be easily switched because of directional tires. All attempts to trigger the system to relearn failed until I used an actual TPMS tool.
I purchased an
Autel
MaxiTPMS TS501 from
Amazon
, but a friendly local tire shop might have one or a similar alternative.
Attached is the set of DIY instructions I pieced together from multiple sources, and its use was successful. While its titled for
718
(982), I suspect the process would be the same for all years and models.
Method 2 in your writeup worked fine on my '11 958 Cayenne. I had a rim shop refinish the wheels, install new sensors and new tires. The new sensors were instantly recognized.
For people having apparent sensor issues - it may not be the sensors. There is an antenna behind the fender-liner in each wheel well. If that's been damaged somehow or failed on its own, you can put all the sensors you want in the rims, and they won't be recognized.
Hi OP,
Juist fyi I eliminated my tps via SIWIP clone. No issue since, outside of keeping an eye on me tire pressures of course. But glad to not fight sensors and their warnings across sets of track and street rolling stock.
Back from vacation...
1) Durametric: only the Pro version will do this kind of programming. This is the method I used - there is a person on eBay that will do a short-term (10 days) rental of a Durametric Pro for a very reasonable price. Worked great.
2) A
Porsche
dealer will
not
program to disable the TPMS, a liability or legal issue I'm sure.
3) I have a Foxwell 350, it cannot do this programming (as of last year).
4) A faithful PIWIS clone should be able to do it, but I have not tried it myself. On the
****
forum there are instructions to create a clone, but you need to be adept at using computers and virtual machines. Advance users only.
