Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I got to a fuel station to fill it with more super unleaded but after a restart it ran rougher and I decided to abort the MOT and drive back home.

I also used some carb/EGR cleaner through the throttle body but bypassed the MAF as I didn't want to gum it up.

I remember I had an old MAF so I fitted that and I still have the same running issue.

I pulled the plug on the MAF to put it to default setting's and it ran just as rough??

I removed the plug and sprayed both that and the throttle body with IPA then both with WD-40, plugged back up and it seemed to be running nicer straight away.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I thought I would keep this separate from my MOT failure thread as it is a new thing that's happening and is now stopping me from going back to get a re-test.
The issue first started when I drove it back from the MOT retest on Friday, (failed on the horn again) the car was revving by itself then had no power to pull out of a junction and also stalled. I had to restart and it then ran rough. The car was very hot from the emission test they had done but it got me home. I left it running on the drive where the revs were fluctuating.
Today I had booked the car back in for its second retest and from cold it started fine and revved out okay on the drive, as soon as I got onto the main road it felt like it had no power again. ABS and PSM light came on the dash a usual indicator of the MAF causing an issue.
I got to a fuel station to fill it with more super unleaded but after a restart it ran rougher and I decided to abort the MOT and drive back home. I pulled the plug on the MAF to put it to default setting's and it ran just as rough??
Previous to this it had failed on emissions so I had put a bottle of Cataclean in the tank and ran it until all that fuel had gone. I also used some carb/EGR cleaner through the throttle body but bypassed the MAF as I didn't want to gum it up. It drove fine to its first retest, since then it has all gone wrong.
When I got it home today I tried to rev it and it won't go above 1500 revs and will sometimes stall. I remember I had an old MAF so I fitted that and I still have the same running issue.
Now I am scratching my head?
Have I got some bad fuel? I have V-power in the tank?
Is the MAF contaminated? I have swapped for another?
Can another sensor cause ABS/PSM lights? cam or crank sensor?
I fitted new spark plugs recently, could I have a failed coil pack?
Throttle Position Sensor issue?
I'm starting to get a little annoyed at this now but I'll update with some more info once I have my laptop plugged in to it a little later.
Just got back to the car, got 9 codes.
I'll post up later but a few about throttle - position, plate, potentiometer, idle control at stop and adjuster.
Also MAF one but I had unplugged that so will get an error..
I just wiggled the throttle plug into the throttle body and revs went up and held at 1800 ish, switched off and on again and it went to a normal idle.
Gona clear these codes now and see where we are at.
Finally got to the bottom of this. The wiggling of the throttle plug and the throttle codes gave me a clue that is where I should be concentrating.
I removed the plug and sprayed both that and the throttle body with IPA then both with WD-40, plugged back up and it seemed to be running nicer straight away.
Made the call to the MOT station asking if I could come for another retest, eh voila, it made it there running perfectly.
It was just a coincidence that it happened as I was doing my MOT return journey and nothing to do with the emissions as I first thought.
