I used WD-40 (using a rag to soak up the excess) to loosen the nuts, and then a flat head screwdriver and hammer to chisel the nuts around and off.

You maybe wondering why I need to unbolt the ecu, well, the brass plate is preventing me from disconnecting two of the cables, and to remove the brass plate I need to unscrew those nuts:

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Hi all, just bought a nice new old Porsche cayman s 987. It’s great apart from a broken chain, and also a lot power steering fluid all over the engine 🤷 I’m in the process of taking the engine out and I need to disconnect the connectors from the ECU. I was hoping for a common nut/bolt, but it’s a strange brass toothed one. Not sure how to describe it but I’ve never seen it before. Anyone know how to remove this? You maybe wondering why I need to unbolt the ecu, well, the brass plate is preventing me from disconnecting two of the cables, and to remove the brass plate I need to unscrew those nuts: thanks! Ankur

POST 2Original post

I found that it’s a tamper proof nut, which requires a special 9259 socket from Porsche . Solved! I used WD-40 (using a rag to soak up the excess) to loosen the nuts, and then a flat head screwdriver and hammer to chisel the nuts around and off.
