Hi,
Having a Real hard time connecting the door handle to the door latch on my
06 Cayman S
. I had to remove the latch to put in a new interior pull cable but the connection between the exterior door handle to the latch is a unique piece of plastic that I can't (with one hand) get it connected to the bolt from the handle. Does anyone have a way to do this as I've spent soooo many hours trying to get this connected. Here is a quick video of what I am talking about:
Been there, done that. And it truly is a real pain in the butt, trying to get your hands into an extremely small space, while working blind, since once your hands are in there it blocks your view of what you are trying to connect. I don’t have any tips or secrets to accomplishing this maneuver, but only to tell you that it takes some thinking through, visualizing the pieces, and the position of them in your hands, and eventually, by feel alone, you will somehow achieve success. My hands are on the large size and I was wishing I knew of a neighborhood kid I could bribe with an ice cream cone or something to get their small hands up in places that I couldn’t reach. But after scraped knuckles, a few choice words, some timeouts to take a breath and give it some more thought, I was able to complete the repair. All I can say is patience and perseverance will be your best path, and it will somehow work out. Good luck. 🤞
Thanks for that, are you saying you got both hands in there??
No, if I recall, one hand holding the door handle assembly in position on the outside of the door, with the other fumbling inside the door, blindly, trying to ‘feel’ the threaded rod into place into the plastic receiver end. It was a couple of years ago, so I can’t recall all the details, but I do remember the difficulty and frustration. It took numerous tries, and after each failure taking the parts back out, taking a mental snapshot of the where everything lines up, putting them back into position and with only memory and tactile feel, trying to wish them into compliance. At times it did feel like an impossible task, but eventually everything seemed to line up and snap into place. I remember thinking, why do the engineers design something so difficult to service and replace. Let us know how you make out, you can do this.
Looks like a Prime reason to buy a fiber optic camera!
Being able to see what's up might crack that nut.

There are wonderful ones that use your smartphone as the display - available for very small money ($20 from memory, but I've owned it about 10 years now).. they are marvelous and can safe hours of nasty work (like retrieving the wiring harness for a Cayenne door handle from inside the door after it fell inside whilst I was replacing a door handle. I started disassembling the door when I remembered the probe, which came with a little hook that attached behind the camera/light part of it - that was perfect for snagging and pulling that harness back out the door handle hole.
Like a mechanic's stethoscope and Porsche code reader - no DIY Porsche owner should be without one.
I GOT IT!!
made another attempt today and I got it connected. Literally the hardest thing I’ve done on my
Cayman
, probably 4 hours all in trying to get a stupid piece of plastic connected. Now I can finish my video about changing the inner door spring, and if
Porsche
hadn’t changed the cable, it would have been a piece of cake.
👍YAY! I feel your pain. 4 hours for one, seemingly, simple task. Been there, done that. But I knew you could pull it off. Congrats .
At least I got a new a snake cam out of the deal (I didn't need to use it), so at least I can take picture of the stupid connections.
Here's a picture of what I am talking about... Pure evil
Nice! Good quality pic. I had bought a cheap one years ago, but the image quality is too poor to be of much real help when needed. Time to replace mine with a newer version.
