Suggestion

The oil consumption is concerning, but I'd wait until the new AOS is installed and see what it does (my '09 uses no measurable oil between 10k/annual oil changes.)

Leading evidence: 'next step' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'next step' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace .)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hey all, Recently did an oil change on about 2000 mile old oil. It’s been having oil consumption, about 2000 miles a quart. There’s sometime been a stream of smoke not on startup but about 10 seconds after which lasts a minute. I suspected this to be the aos so I ordered the part. Now I did an oil change and this is what I see. Small non magnetic flakes. Nothing in oil filter. Any thoughts on what it could be? Bore scoring? Oil analysis is likely the next step for me

POST 2Original post

Yeah, oil analysis is a must. Non-magnetic is usually a sign of very bad things going on inside of the cylinder bores. Hopefully this isn't that though.

POST 3Original post

An oil analysis is a waste of time. it's clear that the engine has suffered a significant fault. That needs a complete rebuild. I'd bet it's bore score. Unfortunately, there is no positive here.

POST 4Original post

I think you are jumping the gun a bit here.. the flake looks transparent (or it's flesh color, which is unlikely)... that could be wear from the chain guides/tensioners. The oil consumption is concerning, but I'd wait until the new AOS is installed and see what it does (my '09 uses no measurable oil between 10k/annual oil changes.) It's also possible this is part of the coating that Porsche applies to the piston skirts - to prevent bore scoring. If that coating breaks down I can imagine increased oil consumption and eventual bore scoring due to the lack of the protective coating. In any case - more investigation is required. It might be useful to do a bore-score scope check.. at least the top end (although the scoring typically starts below the piston at TDC...)

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
