Has anyone had any luck using the
Porsche
Tire Pump in the frunk? (part #: 997.652.055.00)
My other car has a flat and I wanted to pump it up to get it to the nearest tire shop, so I tried to use the
Porsche
tire pump found in the frunk, but it blew the 12V port fuse after about 3 min. I replaced the fuse but it also seemed to damage the tire pump because it didn’t work after that. I figured maybe it was just old so I bought a used (but tested and working) pump and tried again with a new fuse. It also blew the fuse within a couple minutes.
After replacing the fuse again, the pump still worked; but I stopped so I wouldn’t keep blowing fuses/pumps.
Has anyone had any luck using these? This was my first time using it. TBH, it looks outdated relative to the car, but these same part number pumps were still in the 981s so I guess
Porsche
didn’t think they needed to be changed (it’s only a pump after all).
Am I doing something wrong? I use the 12V port in the passenger footwell and follow the instructions on the pump (which are basically- attach to tire, plug in to 12V, turn pump on).
Have you tried the lighter outlet in the console (under the little lid)? The footwell outlet is intended for low-current devices like cell-phone chargers and such (probably 5A max). The lighter outlet is designed to provide about 20 Amps to the lighter (which is basically a short-circuit). I believe that's where
Porsche
intended it to be hooked up to.
Those pumps are surprisingly robust, I checked mine due to age about a year ago, it’s similar to the Milwaukee unit I use at home. Should you ever need to re-inflate a flat, in my opinion, the problem will be a safe place to remove the wheel, a stable jack placement and spot to work on the tire repair because doing it on the vehicle will be almost impossible.
Yep, this was the issue.
I completely forgot about this socket because the cigarette lighter was stuck in the depressed position when I first got the car and I never bothered to get it out.
TY
I figure the old one blew a fuse or something simple and tried to open it up to take a look but couldn't figure out how to. The screws on the back seem to hold the internals in but there's also a plastic L shaped part that hides everything. I couldn't find a way to separate that part.
My new one is working fine on the socket in the center console, but I may take another look at fixing the old one. Would rather not throw away a
porsche
part that they're not making any more. I know it mattered enough to me to buy another of the same part just because I liked that it had it's own specific spot in the frunk.
If anyone is fairly confident they could repair it, I'd happily pass it along.
Maybe they upgraded the 12v footwell outlet for the
718
. I have used the pump a few times, and always plugged into the footwell outlet, with no trouble.
