Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looks like i need a new fuel pump for my 3.4 car. Return pressure is low and mechanic say's it's probably the cause of my non start issue. Fingers crossed. Where would be the best place to purchase a new pump price wise.? Anyone managed to get a new genuine pump at a good price. recently.? Any help gratefully received.

Thanks for making the effort to reply. :thumb: Member: cobrars Craig has kindly lent me a pump before i part with my hard earned as i am not convinced it's the pump. Cheers Craig.

POST 4Original post

When I suspected I had a fuel pump issue I just got a second hand one. They're not exactly known for going bad so was happy to 'roll the dice'. If you have a fuel pressure tester it's pretty obvious if they're working properly. Testing with a known good one is a good option.

POST 5Original post

One of the items Demort suggested replacing at some stage, on an early 996, was the fuel pump. His view, if I remember correctly, was that they still work, but don't deliver enough fuel at high load, high rpm. A view I've also heard attributed, to Wayne at Chipwizards, in relation to remapping early 996's.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Managed to get my 996 started. Turned out to be water in the fuel. Big thanks again to Craig who donated his pump for testing etc :thumb:

POST 7Original post

How did that happen, and how did you work out that's what it was? Mac

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No idea, although it could only be from ***** supermarket fuel. We removed the fuel line to engine to check the fuel pressure and ended up with a 3rd of the bottle contents from the Peckham spring.
