Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • 911uk: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

looking for some guidance please, i havve removed the old seal on my 996 and have re fitted a new seal however the new seal is around 20mm ro big. i dont want to cut it any ideas how i loose the 20mm? the new seal came from Porsche and is the right one for the car. Stumped! Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Assuming just the outer seal, I did this earlier in the week. I too ended up with too much on one side, and had to remove the side to the top corner, compress along the top of the screen, and reinsert along the side, all the time pushing it into the slot then back to compress it slightly against itself. That worked fine. Quoting myself from a post on the PH thread

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Hugh Thanks for the advice - did you use any sort of lubricant on the seal to allow it to push back on itself when fitting it? just thinking it might make it easier to move when on the channel?

POST 4Original post

I also replaced my outer rubber seal last year, try using some silicone spray lube to help position the seal, work from the top corners first and your can push up or down the excess and move it around until fitted, it took me about 15mins to get it right

POST 5Original post

I didn't use any lubricant, but did cover the new seal with gummi pfledge before starting to get all sides of it which might have helped.
