I own a pristine
Cayman S
, 2009,
987.2
, 46k miles with
PASM
. Using as daily.
I've began upgrades and am looking to begin tracking the car once I'm ready.
In what order would you make these modifications?
Short shifter Porsche ORM
Top Gear manifolds with 200 cell cat
Fabspeed X-tips
Duck tail
Endless brakes (MX72 plus performance)
ECU tune
Braided brake lines
Built by Basil Gear knob
MR volt CarPlay
Once ready I'll then be looking to use exhaust sleets and bungs to bring the sound down.
Current mods I've made:
PS4S tyres
Spacers
Fast road geo
Brembo front brakes 2500
Femi standard rear brakes
Desnorkelled
BM air filter
Carnewal GT Exhaust
I would focus on brakes with the following items.
1) high temp brake fluid like Castrol SRF or Motul.
2) racing or track brake pads.
3)
GT3
brake master cylinder.
4) stainless brake lines.
Having strong brakes is a foundational part of tracking the car from both a performance and safety perspective.
The
next
thing would be good tires. Some 200 treadwear tires make a big difference. But the
Michelin PS4S
does a reasonable job as an all around tire for both track and street.
Other than installing the shifter before the knob, the order wouldn't seem to matter.
I bought a knob from Built by Basil. It looked nice but the lever wouldn't attach to the boot with factory hardware. It was suggested I use zip ties to fabricate a DIY solution. I was unhappy with the result. Ask questions about installation. There's no return policy that I'm aware of.
I also have the Carnewal exhaust and Fabspeed tips. That's my favorite improvement. I have the Sportronic tune as well. Maybe I was expecting too much? It's different...maybe better?
Do you have a performance manifold/headers? My understanding is that's where there's biggest gain comes from. Along with a Softronic tune.
+1 on brakes first, this is what I did. Motul RBF600,
GT3
brake ducts, slotted rotors and
Cayman
R pads that's all
Order all the parts and install in the order received.
I would also suggest adding weighted shifter to the list
Run it and see what you think it needs most. These cars are solid out of the box. From your list, I'd do the the brake lines with fresh fluid and go track it. The other stuff seems more comfort and style than performance to me.
