replace all 4 regardless...my issue is because of CPO they won't do that necessarily but in the end, its what has made the car happy.

This problem is turning into a real pain in the behind!

Took it to a Discount and they replaced the 2 on the drivers side.

Suggestion
They simply force a much higher cost of ownership to consumers, many of which who are too lazy to check their air pressures should be relegated to the bus and not allowed to drive.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

threads on this forum and am still having issues with getting my dash light to go off.
I've read through all the various
TPMS
threads on this forum and am still having issues with getting my dash light to go off.
I brought the 2007
Porsche Cayman
over to a local tire shop that does have prior experience with
Porsche
's and they haven't been able to make the light go off.
Here is the situation:
-
TPMS
dash light is on
- the
OBC
is reading the RF tire at 29psi and the RR tire at 36psi
- no PSI readings on the LF or LR tire
Based on the information above, I assumed the batteries were dead in the LF and LR sensors, so I sent the car over to the local tire shop. The shop replaced the LF tire sensor with a 434MHz "Alligator" brand
TPMS
sensor, of which they say they have successfully used on
Porsche
's before. They say that their computer still does not see that the sensor is registering with the car.
They also adjusted the tire pressures and they observed that the
OBC
did not recognize any PSI changes on the RF and RR.
I've taken the car back to put some miles on it to see if it'll register, but it isn't looking like it's going to magically go away at this point.
Would like to see if any of you guys have any input? FWIW, the shop did mention that there might be an issue with the actual
TPMS
module.
After doing some more searching around, it looks like the only sensor that works on this car is 433MHz, but my invoice from the tire shop says 434MHz.
I'll have to ask them about this tomorrow.
Perhaps coincidence, but my OEM 2007 wheels with summer
tires
refused to fully learn this past weekend. Passenger side appeared to learn, but drivers side did not. After 2 days and well over an hour driving time, the TMPS finally when *inactive*.
I had an appointment for inspection/alignment with the dealer so I just asked to look at the
TPMS
as well (knowing CPO would cover it and the service adviser agreed).
Its been a day now and it still has them vexed. Senior tech said this generation of
TPMS
can be finicky, in that the control module can say one corner is bad but it may actually be other corner(s). I don't have the full report on my 4, but they are leaning on replacing all 4 if they cannot get them to learn.
So far they have replaced the right rear which is what the computer said was bad: and that was one of the two corners that while learning, the dash reported it did discover the sensor.
So who knows what's going on: TBD for me. Oh, and another nlm to the gov and all the asshats who thought these were a good idea. They are not. They simply force a much higher cost of ownership to consumers, many of which who are too lazy to check their air pressures should be relegated to the bus and not allowed to drive.

I'm having the same EXACT problem on my '06
boxster
-
TPMS
dash light is on
- the
OBC
is reading the RF tire at 29psi and the RR tire at 36psi
- no PSI readings on the LF or LR tire
This is what I've tried, installed a new pair of sensors and the tire shop told me they were having problems getting them to register. To go drive the car and they should register. A few days later, the new sensors were still not able to register. Two weeks later, I installed a better brand sensor, made in germany and not china like the first set. I drove the car, about 10 minutes later SUCCESS! damn stupid
tpms
light went off! About 5 minutes later, warning that I have a flat tire WHAT!!!! I was on the fway and the car felt fine so I knew it was the
tpms
system going haywire. Still have the same problem,
tpms
light is on and the LF and LR tire do not give a readout. This problem is turning into a real pain in the behind!
Now that I got the pics off my phone, here's what I did last night, I disconnected the
TPMS
computer (pic attached), plugged it back in and wen for a 10 mile drive on the freeway at about 65/70 mph. Came home, the sensors still have not registered. Turned off the car, disconnected the
tpms
computer and started the car. The dash showed "tpc malfunction". Turned the car off, plugged the
tpms
computer back and turned the car. Still cannot register the sensors. This weekend I'm switching the front
tires
to see if the wheel well sensor is what's bad.
The only other problem that it could be and it seems far fetched is that my other car (
bmw
e60) which uses similar if not the same type of sensor 433mhz has made the
tpms
/tpc computer go bad. The other car is no more than 4-5 feet away, and interestingly enough, it's on the side the two sensors went bad. Far fetched but at this point everything is suspect.
Advisor called: replaced all 4 and it registered within a few minutes, come get your car.
Not to sound like a smartarse, but if you have 6+ year old sensors why replace only 1 or 2? replace all 4 regardless...my issue is because of CPO they won't do that necessarily but in the end, its what has made the car happy.

Hi all!
I have a 2008 base
Cayman
, whose
TPMS
batteries have pretty much bought it. I just want to disable it, per
PIWIS
/durametric instructions posted elsewhere.
I'm in Houston, TX, and can't find ANY
Porsche
dealership in the area willing to do it period. There are a few repair shops willing to, for an arm and a leg.
Anyone in the Houston, TX area willing to help me out, please?!
Thanks much
I'm having the same issue in my 2008
cayman
not reading. It gives values for the passenger side of the car, but for both front and back driver side wheels it does not give a value except for showing "req". I just replaced both driver front and rear sensors with the OEM BERU, with no improvement. Is the consensus that a bad sensor on the passenger side of the car could cause no values to show up for the left? I just ordered two new sensors for the passenger side to see if it solves the issue.
I don't think the 08 keeps a residual value. The
TPMS
is either working or it isn't. Not sure why the tire shop couldn't get a read but I suspect their equipment might not be compatable. Proper equipement should be able to tell you the life left in each sending unit. The likelyhood of all 4 being dead simultaneously is very, very remote. I would take it somewhere else as a first step, perhaps an independent
Porsche
mechanic or even a dealer to check them properly. Then if they haven't been replaced for a couple years I'd replace all four but NOT at the
Porsche
dealer. Keep us posted.
The best way I get them to sync up is as follows and you won't even have to drive the car.
1. Turn ignition key on but do not start car.
2. Go through the settings process (18" or 19", summer or winter)
3. With the ignition still on go take turns airing up each tire up to at least 5lbs over the recommended psi on the door panel.
4. go back and deflate each tire to proper pressure.
5. check dash and see if everything has cleared up.
This process has worked for me every time I use it. If you're still having issues then it's probably the batteries or a defective unit.
Update on my
tpms
issue. I replaced the remaining two
tpms sensors
and now everything works great. I wish I had know about the ITM's before wasting money on Huff oem sensors. As a word of advice to others potentially having the same issue, bite the bullet and replace all 4 at once. If you replace just 2 and don't happen to get the dead sensor it will still not work. I had assumed that the dead sensor was on the driver's side since the dash was showing values for the passenger side but showing "req" for the left. Strangely enough the bad sensor was on the passenger side.
Thanks to everyone for their help. I was starting to think my car had a real problem, but fortunately it was the only a dead
TPMS
.
I am two hours south of Houston in Victoria and have a Pro Durametric. My 06CS did not come with
TPMS
. If you ever get this way I'll be happy to hook up the Durametric and disable the
TPMS
if you want to.
Just bought a
2007 Cayman
and am having this exact same issue with it. Took it to a Discount and they replaced the 2 on the drivers side. Didnt work. Bought 2 OEM from
TPMS
.com and that didnt work. Do I need to buy 4 ITM's and try that? Where do I get them?
