Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

the morning after driving back from as Vegas (~1,100mi. round trip) there was an issue with our steering, whether the car was stationary or moving - when we turned the wheel a strained whine ensued. after a trip to our service center, we found the noise was caused by a driver-side seized tie rod end. no worries about warranty coverage, etc. - no problem. the car has ~4,200 mi. on it. i have a few questions: is tie rod end seizure common? (i’ve not found information on this site regarding) …or was the part likely defective at build? we did not hear the noise (before repair) the next day upon starting the car cold - can tie rod seizure come and go? was it dangerous to drive the 20 mi. for service? would certain driving habits (bad bad habits) cause the tie rod to seize? thanks all - *curiosity quells the cayman*

POST 2Original post

I think the larger question is how many Caymans were killed by Croctoberfest?

POST 3Original post

I have not heard of this problem before, did the dealer say if it was common on Caymans and/or other Porsches or a rarity?

POST 4Original post

There have been some problems with Audi tie rods. Extreme strain placed on them with the combination of power steering masking the feel has been the suggested cause. I assume you didn't hit anything to damage it?

POST 5Original post

well there was this elk... no, did not hit anything including curbs, etc. there were no large potholes before, during or after trip. drove it to the track, but did not drive it there (soon!) dealer (Carlsen Porsche) was not aware of this being a common Porsche issue, also admitted they have not worked on many Caymans to date. going back this Friday to have third break light replaced (the seal went, twice. time for rattle to end.) any questions for them? *looking forward to boxter loaner*
