You guys know lots more about this than I do, but just to add my +1, I have also successfully changed battery in this way - key to first position before disconnect and all is well.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wanted to take the battery off my 1999 C2 and when i undid the negative the alarm went off, couldn't stop it so re-connected it. Is there a procedure for removing the battery? Didn't try anything else in case i buggered something up. oh need a new battery, does anyone know the best/cheapest place in Manchester/Stockport? Thanks :?:

POST 2Original post

Yes it's normal. The alarm system thinks you are trying to nick the battery. Switch the ignition on (but don't start the engine) before you remove the negative terminal.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ace Many Thanks Richard :thumb:

POST 4Original post

You're not alone, that one's caught a lot of us out! Oh the joys of Porsche ownership!

POST 5Original post

Yep, perfectly normal. It does the same when the battery wears out (as a number of occupants at the Tiergarten found out when my 996 battery expired )

POST 6Original post

The worst bit of the whole thing is that your ear is normally about 6 inches from the siren just as you undo the negative terminal. The ringing in your ears lasts for minutes!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

MINNY, YOU ARE NOT WRONG, OH SORRY FOR SHOUTING still got the ringing in my ears, oh so what did i do, put the negative terminal back on, dam thing goes even louder!!!!

POST 8Original post

When I did what you did, my 2 year old was sleeping so I just started the car with the alarm blaring and drove it a hundred yards down the road until it stopped. By then the wife decided to have a debate with myself about the racket I was causing.

POST 9Original post

Thank god for 911uk.com... Just been fitting my CTEK trickle charger - only after I'd woken up our baby and burst my eardrums did I think of searching...

POST 10Original post

You guys know lots more about this than I do, but just to add my +1, I have also successfully changed battery in this way - key to first position before disconnect and all is well. As a precaution having put the key in the ignition I also kept the drivers door open in case the locking had a funny turn (and dropped the drivers window in case I was clumsy enough to accidentally close the door!). Didn't have a problem with the locking as far as I remember but it was worth it for the peace of mind! HNY all H

POST 11Original post

Hi Guys Any special procedures for re-connecting the battery? - dam alarm still goes off when I start the car after re-connecting it! Any ideas? Does this sound like an electrical fault or a procedure I'm getting wrong? Cheers

POST 12Original post

Keep the key in position 1 when reconnecting. MC

POST 14Original post

My local tyre place replaced mine. Had one guy remove it and another standing there to put the new one in. Must have worked as alarm didn't go off and no electrical gremlins afterwards. I did know about the position 1 key thing but didn't mention it as I assumed they knew what they were doing....

POST 15Original post

Hi JD my battery went flat, now on charge. drivers window lowered halfway on its own and now, with battery charged, i can only get it back up to about 2 inches from fully closed. any ideas? how do you 'reset' them? thank you
