Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I took my Cayman (1,100 miles now) to the dealer today to have the clear bra repaired. While I was there I mentioned that the shift from 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 2nd, didn't seem that smooth. So the Service Manager and top Porsche mechanic took it for a test drive. Afterwards, they told me that while they didn't think there was anything wrong with the shifting into different gears, they did notice that the Shift Knob leaned to the driver's side and that to them indicated a problem with the Linkage (not quite sure what that is even after they explained it). They said to bring it back this week and they would have to pull out the engine to replace it. Is this something to be concerned about? Is it normal? An easy repair job? I'm not thrilled with them having to pull out the engine to do it either. Any comments?

POST 2Original post

Nothing to worry about - the shift linkage is a set of cables that are routed over the engine back to the transmission. I doubt they'll have to pull the motor to do any of this. Usually they'll pull the cover off the motor inside the cabin to do this. brad
