Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Thank you for the response, the old cluster was fried due to me incorrectly fitting a battery, my issue is the gauge is saying 1/4 full when empty.

What I am getting at is all clusters are in two parts, the rear ecu and the dials, the rear needs to be car specific, the dial half can be swapped between the two.

Hi All, due to an issue of my own creation I had to have a new instrument cluster fitted, and I may have an issue, on a recent excursion the fuel level dipped below the low tank manual reading and the low fuel light illuminated, the problem being the car then ran dry within a mile of this occurring!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, due to an issue of my own creation I had to have a new instrument cluster fitted, and I may have an issue, on a recent excursion the fuel level dipped below the low tank manual reading and the low fuel light illuminated, the problem being the car then ran dry within a mile of this occurring! Do I need the gauge re set or is there an alternative answer? Any theories or advice would be much appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Were the new and old instrument clusters both either 2wd or 4wd? Martin

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Martin, As far as I am aware both the original and new were from C2 tips, the replacement cluster was sourced by the workshop so this is an assumption on my part

POST 4Original post

If you pop the cluster out there is a part number on the back. Post that up and I will dig out what car it was from. My guess is like above, you have a C4 cluster in your C2. Calibrated completely differently for the twin tank. I bought a C2 cluster for my C4 by mistake and it would read empty when still half full. Why did you replace your cluster? What was up with it? What I am getting at is all clusters are in two parts, the rear ecu and the dials, the rear needs to be car specific, the dial half can be swapped between the two. So if it was for bulbs out, difference coloured dials etc. you can just swap the front over. If yours was faulty then that is a different matter.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the response, the old cluster was fried due to me incorrectly fitting a battery, my issue is the gauge is saying 1/4 full when empty. I will look into removing the gauge to source part number but as above not that great with the spanners.

POST 6Original post

You need to speak to the people who sourced the cluster, 99% sure it is from an AWD car and you need one from a 2WD car. This is exactly what happens.
