On my previous
911
's, the courtesy lights for the engine compartment and luggage areas could be turned off manually by depressing the hood-locking mechanisms with your finger, "fooling" the switches into the closed mode. This was useful when doing extended detail or mechanical work. Does the
Cayman
work the same way? I can't figure out how to do this; the
battery
's reserve is pretty marginal as it is! Thanks for your tips.
Look in the manual under interior lights for an illustration of the various switch positions.
Santa Fe, pg 81 says:
Interior Lights
Interior lights, reading lights, footwell lights, luggage compartment lights
Switching off lights
Switch position 2.
Switch on driver’s side: interior lights on driver’s side, footwell and luggage compartment lights off.
- that works for everything stated above except for the front luggage compartment light. Can someone confirm that the driver's side switch in switch position 2
does
turn off the front luggage compartment light?
thanks
Ted, go test it on your
Cayman
and let us know. Works for mine.
a test was the basis for my post, and it does not turn off the front luggage compartment light...interesting
A bulb or fuse problem?
Manual says "
Switch position 1
. Switch on driver’s side: interior lights on driver’s side, footwell and
luggage compartment lights on
.
Switch on passenger’s side:
reading light on passenger’s side on. Switching off lights
Switch position 2
. Switch on driver’s side: interior lights on driver’s side, footwell and
luggage compartment lights off
. Switch on passenger’s side: reading light on passenger’s side off.
yep, driver's side switch position 2 works as advertised - except the front luggage compartment lamp stays on.
so how do you tell if the fridge light really goes out when you close the front hood?
(never had any
battery
problems after 2 1/2 months, 5400 miles)
I just unplugged mine. Pop the lens cover off, disconnect the wire and put the lens back in!
Well if you have a small trusting observant person that fits in the front luggage compartment available....
cool, and I can get a two for one sale and check the hood release handle at the same time!
Not to worry. The luggage compartment has a florescent emergency escape handle.
I like the idea of a light coming on in the luggage compartment. My key is always opening the luggage compartment at odd times. If the car is in the garage and the luggage compartment is open I see the light and I go and close the lid. (That was a horribly worded sentence but you get my point.)
ok, for those that just had to know - it's confirmed:
1. the front luggage compartment light goes out when you close the lid
completely
by pushing it closed with your hand and the lid has engaged in the lock....when the lid is only lowered and engages the latch, the light remains on
2. the internal front trunk release handle does fully release the hood lid to easily push it open from the inside
3. the Cayman can easily 'sit' three adults while parked in the garage
DISCLAIMER: Do not try this at home. Closed course in the garage, subject was an adult under parental infulence. No harm was done to any Cayman or Person in the demonstration in this procedure!
and BTW, the front luggage compartment light, with the lid open, still does not turn off according to the procedure in the owner's manual. I know I can take the bulb out and I do like that the light comes on - I only want to know why its not working IAW the manual....can't wait to see what else I find time to do over the next holiday weekend
So your
next
assignment is to position your volunteer in the rear of the hatch to make sure the spoiler comes up when it is supposed to....
