Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The side skirts/sill covers aren`t a particularly good fit along the top edge after 18 years on my 996.1, there is a gap where they are stuck with tape along the door line, most noticeable on the passenger side. Has anyone had them off and refitted them, or know what is involved/required to refit them/what sort of tape is required to replace the original :dont know: TIA Kris

POST 2Original post

Maybe ask a Porsche bodyshop what's involved? Then do it yourself

POST 3Original post

Hi Kris, Turbo Jonny has done this on his GT3. I know he got replacement fixings from OPC (JCT600) and his main motive was to ensure there was no crud behind the side skirts. Suggest you PM him but I'll drop him a txt. Cheers, Keith.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Aha, so there is a "fitting kit" to be acquired, but I wonder if I will need the whole kit or just the double sided sticky tape as only the very top edge is a poor fit :thumb: My reason is the same Kieth, there seems to be half of the M1 tarmac at the bottom of my offside sill when I peer in with a torch  EGTE, I`ll definately be tackling this myself, not paying OPC prices for what should be a cleaning and refitting job :thumb:

POST 5Original post

Hi Kris, I just had the Mk1 GT3 skirts fitted that had been purchased (fitting kit) directly from an OPC at a rough cost of around £58 I recall. This is inclusive of the screw fixings, that run along the base of the skirt that screw in underneath and the adhesive tape that runs along the top edge. Great fit with no gaps present. Maybe worth giving him a bell if you have any questions. On Mk2 GT3 skirts I believe (think) Porsche changed from the tape to a bonding agent like Tigerseal – however Tom was adamant that if fitted correctly the tape is perfect... which it is. Hope that helps Nathan

POST 6Original post

I am hoping to see pictures of removal, what is found underneath and replacment from you KurlyKris. Pip

POST 7Original post

Likewise, one of mine is sitting slightly proud at the top and could do with the same treatment.

POST 8Original post

I had mine off my 996.2 GT3. The top edge is held on with double sided tape and mine were starting to come away in a couple of places. I removed the many screws that hold the skirts to the underbody and carefully prised the top edge off. You will have to spend some time cleaning off the old adhesive then use IPA to degrease the surfaces. I used 3M VHB which is brilliant tape (not cheap). Whilst I had the skirts off I replaced the metal clips that push onto the floorpan to cill joint and used new screws. Easy job really....... PM me for some more detail as I have some photos too I think

POST 9Original post

I did the same as above when I swapped mine onto another car. Make sure you use 3M tape, I used a cheaper alternative and had to refit the skirts a month later.

POST 10Original post

Holy thread resurrection, my passenger side cill is loose at the top so I need to get some 3M VHB tape. Question is, which one? There SO many. Any ideas?

POST 11Original post

POST 12Original post

That's the stuff! But I refuse to pay £55 pork tax. Still, cheaper then the £200+ you'd pay from an OPC, it's just 3M tape FFS :floor:
