Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

So I'm crawling around under the engine for the first time today and I notice this braided-wire aircraft cable which attaches behind the oilpan and runs back towards the differential - can anyone tell me what it is/does?

POST 2Original post

Might that be some kind of electrical ground? Or a trigger lock?

POST 3Original post

I'll take Bizarre Underbits of European Cars for $100... what is some sort of contraption that drops the oil pan or somesuch upon intense front oriented impact? that is my stab.

POST 4Original post

Could be to keep the under bits from being spilled about the highway after an elk encounter..

POST 5Original post

My $0.02 is that it keeps the engine & gearbox in place should the engine mount fail from a crash or excess wear.

POST 6Original post

This is in fact a safety tether to keep the engine/trans from going forward in an accident. This was first used on the Boxster 986. The GT3's and Turbo's utilize an upper block that goes on top of the Trans/engine.

POST 7Original post

The is the "Stratshcussinklinger". Literally "Street skiing holder". It is an attachment point for the equivalent of a water ski tow rope used for "street-skiing"...basically being towed on a skateboard behind a car on the freeway. Very popular in The Emirates. Usually found only on cars destined for the Dubai Centre.

POST 8Original post

Boy, those Porsche engineers think of everything, don't they - well, except for iPod connectivity . . .

POST 9Original post

Anyone seen my bicycle lock? Oh, there it is...

POST 11Original post

In the event of a serious rear end collision this cable helps prevent the engine/trans from pushed through the rear firewall into the driver/passenger. I have heard it referred to as the "It is the anti-submarine cable" Erik
