The previous owner fitted the hard top for transportation to me and he put the roof rack and assy kit on the passenger seat so i assumed he used it.................

I also found this one for the hard top and was curious how it fitted so I dug a little deeper.

You can check eBay and get second hand but they still seem to more expensive then a roof rack from halfords.

Hi all,
I wondered if anyone has a roof rack for their 996? I saw a 997 with a mountain bike on the roof the other day and wondered if they do one for a 996? It looks like there are slots on the roof for a roof rack / luggage rack.

You can buy a porsche roof transport system from Porscheshop for £366. I'm pretty sure there are no after market ones that fit.

I'm sure I read that Thule accessories fit eg bike rack
Yes I use mine all the time.
I had a thule setup, but then got the OEM Porsche setup as it is better (doesn't contact the roof) and looks better.
My bars came from a 997 owner and fit perfectly on my 996.
Any 20mm Thule T track accessories will fit, I use thule bike racks.
I recently purchased a Cabrio 4 and the guy delivered the car with the roof rack and a small tool box for what i assume is the roof fittings.
I'm in Switzerland working so only get back a few times a month but i would consider selling it as i have no need for it...........
Hi 911cab4girl, how come the previous owner had a roof rack if it's a convertible? Don't they only fit on the coupe? If your willing to sell it I'd be interested. Is it a genuine Porsche set? I'll PM you for more details.

There are a few types of roof rack on the market.
There is one that actually goes over the soft cabrio frame.
I also found this one for the hard top and was curious how it fitted so I dug a little deeper.
Then there is this type of system that I'm going to be trying out on my Targa in the coming weeks. Suction pads..
Porsche RTS details
Hi, would anybody know the width of the narrowest bar on the OEM Porsch Roof Transport System 996.801.105.00 as I am trying to figure out if I can fit a narrow roof box along side a bike carrier. I have seen it done on a 997 with a slightly different rack.
Appears to be the same as I had on my Cayman. Smallest Thule feet, with aero bars, all in black. The OEM system sits way too high above the roofline IMO. The set-up I had way more slick.
Thule aerobars work great. Might trim them down one day, they overhang a bit too much as the ones I got were overlong but an easy job with a chop saw.
You can get the taller feet to fit on the back but it's never bothered me. Super secure.
