Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

About 10 mins from home on the motorway and noticed what at first I thought was white smoke coming from the rear of the car shortly followed by a massive spike in engine temp. Got off as quickly as I could and more or less immediately there was a puddle of coolant forming beneath the engine area. From what I could see (didn't want to get too close to scolding hot coolant) appeared to be coming from around the water pump area or large coolant hose connecting to it. Currently awaiting recovery. Wish me luck I suppose! :?

POST 2Original post

good luck with it. Good that you got off before it could cause any real damage.

POST 4Original post

Happened to me a year ago, was a tiny pin hole in the t-junction on the pipe coming off the rail.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

AA man thinks it's the pump as well. Can I ask if anybody knows the correct part number and manufacturer? I believe it is Pierburg but please correct me if I am wrong!

POST 6Original post

996 106 011 51 Autodoc Not crazy expensive, no idea about fitting costs....good luck!

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you Photek! Going to have a stab at replacing it myself

POST 8Original post

Just looked at the Autodoc website for 996 water pumps. Surprising range of manufacturers and prices! Why is Magneti Marelli so cheap??

POST 9Original post

Because, for quite some time now, their products are basically garbage.

POST 10Original post

Best making sure which ever one you buy has a plastic impeller. The metal ones can eat engine parts if it starts to fail and wobble.

POST 11Original post

Replacement is a super simple job. There is one boot which is a bit of a pain but it really isn't bad all in.

POST 12Original post

Good luck! Actually it looks quite a "doable" job : https://blog.fcpeuro.com/how-to-replace-a-porsche-996-911-water-pump-thermostat Where would we be without the internet?

POST 13Original post

I fitted the QH pump, and it is a lot easier with the engine out Also change the thermostat whilst you are there, very inexpensive item as well.

POST 14Original post

Happened to me in December, total failure, had to get it trailered to OPC and it took a week and cost a grand
