Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Being a C4 owner , I would agree that an OPC check or INDY check 1st before purchase.
Leading evidence: 'Check 1st' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check 1st' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
It is young enough to have a Porsche warranty, so why not get a 111-point check done at an OPC and negotiate on the outcome (it will fail anyway as it's overdue a service).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Guys,
Found a nice 996 c4 (year 2000) with all the bells and whistles, xenons, heated leccy seats, psm, sat nav pcm, 19" rear alloys (I take it the fronts have 18's? is this normal)
Anyway, the guy selling was really honest and said the service was over due and its a major 48K miles jobby (on 53K miles now) needs discs and pads all round, and its on its original clutch!
Taking all this into consideration, im guessing getting everything sorted would cost around £4k, What should I realistically be offering for this car
Any thoughts would be gratefully appreciated
Thanks in advance
Hmmm.... Wheel size should be the same front and back and would not normally be 19" on a 996 (17" were standard, but many have 18"s)
48k service is a big one... and if he's let it go 5k over I would worry about what else he hasn't bothered to do if it were me. It should have already had a 48k/4 year service in 2004-5, so check that. Either way, 48k service alone is betwen £600-£900 depending on who does it, discs and pads all round will set you back another £1000, clutch about £800 at an Independent and there is bound to be more...

Private sale, taking everything into account, I would say 22-23k, assuming it's low owner (ie. no more 3 owners), C16 UK car, it has been correctly serviced (at a main dealer, or recognised Indy) at other intervals, is a good colour combination (eg. silver/black), has lots of tyre tread (ie 4-5mm all round) and is accident free.
If it was mint, on a private sale, I would say 27k...but that's only my estimate.
I agree with Wattie, it can't have 19" on the back and 18" on the front. 18" is biggest that Porsche approve.
From your description I would go in firmly with your eyes open, as I have my doubts about this car and they can be seriously expensive to put right.
That's pretty much the car I'm looking for at the moment and I personally wouldn't pay any more than 21K for it. Most of the cars that age with similar mileage are around 25K and all the ones I've seen so far have had the 48K service done. If everything else checks out, offer 20K and see how you get on - he'll know that there's a big bill looming and will want rid.
Being a C4 owner , I would agree that an OPC check or INDY check 1st before purchase. In my humble opinion £20/21k depending on what else is found. Things like rads & air conditioning systems usually need sorting out @ that age.
Good hunting , its half of the enjoyment
Certain steps to be taken with a car like this. Very long ones in the opposite direction.
Different size wheels?
Major service overdue by 5,000 miles  Why is this? Too expensive for the current owner??? What else has he scrimped on??
Brakes all round and clutch £3k ??
Also if a 2000 is this a 3.4? Nothing wrong with the 3.4 engine at all if looked after properly but this car to me just doesn't sound that well cared for.
Just my opinion but if you do go this route make sure you have a Peter Morgan type inspection carried out and get an OPC warranty on the car.
Good luck
The best thing about 996 c2's and 4's is that they are not in particularly short supply, consequently it's a buyers market. There are a lot out there both good, bad and indifferent. When you are spending 20k+ on a second hand car buy the best that you can afford. If, like this one, it has some issues you are unsure about, walk away. There are plenty of good quality, well looked after cars out there, be picky and don't buy on impulse. Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search.

An OPC looks at the car as it is presented to them on the day for the 111PC to apply a warranty from that point foward. My car was overdue a major service but passed the 111PC and I put the Porsche warranty on the car with no issues.

Thanks for all the reply's guys. I tried to dig a little deeper and got no response from my last email. Not a great sign.
This was the info I did get from the first email
owned car just short of 3 years
partner just given birth to 1st child
2 previous owners
original clutch
tyres good, just got 12 month mot, will need new discs alround,
no problem you getting independant specialist to check car over.
had oil leak 18 months ago was just the seal had it changed. the car has no major faults, only done 3,500 mls in last 12 months, have another vehicle for work only done 16,000mls in 3 years, lots of money spent on services, & various ongoing repairs, lots of invoices, car as full porsche service history, although at present next service is over due. this has been reflected in price. the car was 88,000 new with 12,000 extras, the car has no dents just a few stone chips to front bumper, ac ok, sat nav pcm, psm, suede head cloth 3 spoke steering wheel, grey stitching to trim, sun roof climate, tracker, zenons, clear lenses, electric heated seats, 19inch alloys to rear, headlight washers sat nav, the car as not been race tracked.
is that Euros? I have a price list from 2000 and I know that mine was £84,000 new and I have all that stuff and a heck of a lot more - like £7500-worth of carbon interior and about the same in GT Aerokit!
Mind you, maybe those 19" wheels cost a packet
RUN AWAY....
PS. Anyone who has the RMS changed without buying a clutch at the same time is either a sandwich short of a picnic mentally, or £400 short for the parts financially!
Either way - does not bode well for the next owner!
He states that he has only done 3,500 miles in the last 12 months but it is on 53k and overdue the 48k service - it is therefore surely been significantly over a year since the last service? When was the last one completed?
That alone would worry me, although, if you can get a 111 check and a full OPC 48k service with warranty negotiated in the deal, it may be OK - just bear in mind that a big gap in the service history will be evident to the next buyer as well... Sounds a nice spec though.
