Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was really disappointed to see that some of the interior trim in my recently purschased 996 is made of silver painted plastic :x ! It is unbelievable that Porsche would make such ham-fisted cost cuttings. Is there anyway of replacing these parts with some solid metal stuff  ? Quyen

POST 2Original post

I totally agree! How tacky does it look? Might as well be driving a Honda S2000!

POST 4Original post

The 'horseshoe' around the base of the gear shifter is a good example...

POST 5Original post

True, that's a horrendous piece of plastic. My GT3 has a black leather/carbon-fibre stick, this plastic really sets it off. I hate the knob.

POST 6Original post

All of the "Alu Look" parts. The name kind of gives it away to the buyer.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The silver stud on the door in my car is scratched and looks realy bad. I would really like to replace this but preferably with some real metal so that the silver paint can't be scratched off again!

POST 8Original post

Completely agree - the worst on mine is the boot and bonnet release where the plastic has scuffed as well.

POST 9Original post

Instructions for replacing the lid release handles can be found in a back copy of 911 & Porsche World magazine... issue 135 in fact. You can order back-copies of their web-site.

POST 10Original post

Who makes replacement METAL bonnet/boot release handles? Mine are scuffed as well from previous owner. TB
