Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

About to pick up my 996 from an opc and noticed that the aluminium handbrake and gearlever (the optional ones) are quite heavily scratched... short of replacing them, does anyone know whether replacement aluminium inserts are available or if not how best the scratches can be removed... the dealer has said that the cars a few years old and so this kind of wear is common, and doesnt seem to think much can be done... any thoughts appreciated...

POST 2Original post

Make them sort it before you buy the car as it will really annoy you later! I've found all you can do is replace them which will cost around 150 + for used ones in good condition. Brand new EACH item is about 230 + VAT.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. Can't see that they'll move to replace them... they've already indicated that the car is a few years old and so its never going to be new, but for sure I'll push..... you're not aware of being able to refurb them or just get replacement inserts then?....

POST 4Original post

I don't believe you can buy just those bits *someone please chip in if I'm wrong* . I tried the OPC parts dept with the gearstick, as the 'alu' part is a bit of plastic that eventually wiggles out if you can get a screwdriver under it. I do have a black 996 handbrake in very good condition which I'd be happy to sell. Actually it's Scott's old one (yes 'the' Scott) so maybe it's worth extra! My stance would be that you pay a premium when buying from an OPC so they should at least ensure you are happy as you drive off the forecourt!

POST 6Original post

I don't think you can buy just the inserts, and replacement will be expensive. The OPC should sort it in my view... surely they could be simply repainted using the correct silver paint? Might even be something you could do in the long winter nights.
