I installed an aftermarket Android head unit in a
2007 Cayman
. I have the SPP upgrade, but no
Bose
. I realized I had not hooked the amp signal wire (black/red) to the new stereo. It was a while back that I installed the stereo and have just been going without the bass from the door speakers. Fast forward to current, and I go back to hook up the amp wire to the new head unit. Splice into it and plug the Android head unit back in. Terrible distortion from the bass speakers. Try to plug the factory
CDR24
head unit back in and the same thing. The bass was definitely working before I installed the new Android system. So, my question is, is the issue the amp, the speakers, or something else. Youtube video is the sound coming from the factory system w/ the Bass set to +2. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Bump to the top with updates
Are you playing something in that video, or is that happening without anything playing?
You say "android head unit"... I don't know what that means. Android doesn't make a head unit... so what are you plugging in?
I can't tell if your wiring is correct, as there isn't enough info... in addition, talking about colors doesn't help because many manufacturers use different ones. If you have a schematic or sketch of what you did, that would help a lot.
The radio is playing in that video. The Android head unit is
this one
. The new head unit comes with a wiring harness to convert from the factory wiring harnesses to the new wiring harness. For the most part no splicing has to be done for the wiring. The only exception to that is the signal wire from the factory harness to the ASK amplifier, telling it to turn on. I had to splice that wire (the red/black wire) and attach the amplifier signal wire from the new head unit wiring harness. No other factory wiring was touched.
Ok, so that's not an "Android head unit"... it's an Xtrons brand head unit that happens to run Android for an OS.
I've never head of "Xtrons" as a brand, but they don't seem to be a big name like
Pioneer
, Alpine, etc. Not that this is a bad thing, but I would question the quality or reliability more than a big brand name. That said, if you didn't splice anything other than the one wire, then I'd contact the manufacturer and see if they can help... because it's not really "your problem" to fix it - they should help you. Hopefully they do.
My initial guess would be that you have a bad unit or a wiring issue. Again, the manufacturer should be the one to help, since it's their unit and their wiring... without that detail, I can't really help (I generally do stereo wiring myself... in which case I know what's going where, etc.) Sorry I can't be of more help.
Thanks. I spoke at length with Crutcfield.com today and they ran through a bunch of options. One that sounds like the most likely to succeed is a new amp, component set, and crossover with all new wiring.
Great, you got it from Crutchfield... I've heard good things about their service, so this is the best way to deal with it for sure!
Good luck getting it squared away, but definitely lean on them!
Dunno if it's your problem, but there have been more than a few reports of the rubber surrounds on the door woofers failing surprisingly early on the 987 cars. So you may want to take a look in there to ensure they're still intact.
