Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Which ones, warning/ check lights or digital speedo/ clock etc?

Just sounds like a loose fitting bulb...easy enough to remove and replace...I was able to do it with help from the Renntech instructions....although I did need tweezers to remove and add the bulb...

At this point I flipped over the floating dash in the car onto a towel on the dashboard to get it out of the way for future testing of just the instruments.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Just bought a 2002 C4 and have a problem
that the dashboard lights dont work all the time.
they can come on after 5 mins driving or not at all
and with it being dark in the morn going to work
then dark coming home its a pain.
Any ideas
Stu
oh right. well thanks anywa.. i was trying to gauge what type of discount you got. whats the milage mate?
you happy with the purchase?
the S4 convert was it?
Is it all lights or just certain ones? Which ones, warning/ check lights or digital speedo/ clock etc? In daylight can you see a faint display as if it's working but no light coming through to illuminate?
If it's all lights and they come on and off again that sounds like a dodgy connection to the actual cluster (there are 3 at the back of the cluster unit). If it's individual lights then it may be a dodgy bulb connection. They have a funny way of fitting, you push in and twist turning two connector plates which make electrical contact, it may have come loose or never put in properly. If a bulb has gone you can purchase from OPC or an INDY and then fit yourself. Means taking off the instrument cluster though. Instructions are on Rennlist or do a search on here
72k miles no s4 was saloon yeh i am happy so far
Its not the LCD lights ie speed/clock and all the warning lights and centre computer LCD work fine, its purely the backlight that illmuinates the 6 speedo/ rev counter etc. thought it might be an easy fix dont want to
take it to the OPC for a bulb/dodgy connection but then again if it means
taking out the dashboard!!!! HELP
Thanks
It's just a bulb thing probably. Either way it means taking off the cluster. You have to get behind it to replace the bulbs. It's not that hard a job. From rennlist.com
Removing the "floating" dashboard which contains the instruments - This is accomplished by removing just two T-20 long torx screws. One is under the microphone circle at the left side and one is under the emergency flasher switch. The microphone circle can be removed by taking a paper clip and making a small 1/8" hook on the end with a longnose pliers. Insert the hook through one of the central slits, rotate and pull it right off. The emergency switch pulled out with a fingernail to start and then firm pulling and very gentle rocking with 2 fingers. Two parts fall out - the switch button and housing. You now have access to the two torx screws. The left screw was unscrewed and then retrieved with a magnetic-tipped tool so it didn't drop into the cluster. The right screw is a no-brainer. Now lift up on the floating dashboard and it pops off.
Remove the blue, white and black connectors from the back of the instrument cluster by depressing the connector latch and flipping its plastic cover all the way up. All 3 connectors are identical except for color. Remove two more T-20 torx screws from behind the floating dash which hold the instrument cluster on. Bring the instrument cluster to a towel covered workbench. At this point I flipped over the floating dash in the car onto a towel on the dashboard to get it out of the way for future testing of just the instruments. I never removed the connector from the emergency flasher switch."
Just becareful not to scratch the dash....
Or you could just take it to an good specialist like Sundeep said
