I also managed to lock myself out of it at a business park with the engine running (confounded auto door locking!) after a one-off operation of the faulty door without thinking, so, word of warning, take the keys with you!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can't open the driver's door from the outside! Over the weekend I exited the car and closed the door but it didn't shut fully, just on the catch. I went to open it again to close it properly but it wouldn't open. The window drops as it should when I lift the handle but the catch does not release. The central locking motor appears to be working okay. Any ideas????

POST 2Original post

I had a similar fault on a BMW 330Ci... it was the door handle mechanism. I also managed to lock myself out of it at a business park with the engine running (confounded auto door locking!) after a one-off operation of the faulty door without thinking, so, word of warning, take the keys with you! Have you tried operating the door handle from the inside? Have you tried unlocking the door with the key in the doorlock/central locking button on the dash? It may just need resetting in some way.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It unlocks from the inside. I'll try the dash central locking to see if it has any effect but don't hold out much hope! I was hoping that it would be something other than the handle mechanism as I don't relish removing door panel etc!
