Suggestion
If manual check when Clutch was done I reckon about £1000 to do.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys,
I need to pic your brains. I'm looking at a Black 996 Turbo tomorrow after putting a refundable deposit on the car. It's from a BMW dealership from a part ex. Details are below:
- Price £43,000 (reckon I can get them down to £42,000)
- 2002 (52 Reg)
- 32,000 miles
- Full Porsche History except 1 with a Porsche specialist.
- I would be the 4th owner
- Dealer will do a Porsche Pre Sale Inspection and pay for it
- 12 Months MOT
- All the usual extra's including BOSE speakers and SAT NAV
- Dealer will full prep the car including refurbs of any paintwork/alloy scuffs
Does it sound like a fair price??
Cheers for your help.
Omar
Hi Omar,
Yes, I think that's a very reasonable price. High owners is not usual on a 996, but then again, 3 owners for a 5 year old car isn't uncommon either!
If they include full OPC warranty and they'll do £41k, then I'll definitely take it. To be honest, I'd probably still buy it at 42k....presuming the HPI comes back clear and it's a C16 UK car.
It is a buyers market at the moment, but I still think this is a reasonable price. A C4S for this specification wouldn't go for much less and the Turbo is a more desirable car.
Other things to check are:
a) When the service is due and is it a major/minor?
b) How much tyre treat is left?
c) When were the brakes and fluids last changed?
....if any of these are low, then you are looking at potentially £1k for each item.
Cheers,
GD
Thanks guys, all good stuff.
What is a C16 UK car exactly? Is it simply a right hand drive UK spec 996 TT?
Last service was 23,815 and now stands at approx 32,000. Is it in need of another soon then?
Hi,
Yes, it's due another service (12k/1y). That has probably been factored into the dealers price.
C16 is UK supplied. Check the first page of the service manual, as it will have the option codes printed there. The first code is always the country designation. The codes are also printed under the bonnet on a sticker, but it'll be quite faded and difficult to read.
If they are doing the inspection then i'd get them to throw in the service and the OPC warranty, even if it means you have to pay a little bit more. Worth it for peace of mind.
12K service is £390 and the warranty is £895. They'll only give you the warranty if everything on the car is OK after the inspection, or you pay to have everything sorted from the inspection - again ask the dealer to pay for this!
I just bought my X50 996TT, which is a Dec 01 (51) with 48K for slightly less than you are being offered that one for. It did have 10 months OPC warranty left, but does need a £1k service which it is having next weekend.
Sounds good..
Whilst they are 'consumables' a couple of other items to check:-
You don't mention Tip or Manual. If manual check when Clutch was done I reckon about £1000 to do. need to troll through history.
Discs and pads - similar price
Good luck
looks like a great price, as others have said there could be some hidden costs. Tyres & brakes will eat up some cash as will a Porsche warranty.
can't wait untill 997's are this good value
but I fear a little for 996 residuals.
I'm hoping they stiffen up a little in the spring.
The car is a manual. When does the clutch usually need replacing then? So the next service should be at 36k miles and will be approx £395? Is the £1000 for a main service?
Omar
Yes, 390 for minor 12k / annual service, about 1k for the major 24 month service
All the info on prices is available on the porsche website, go to porsche servicing etc...
Clutch is dependent on how it's been driven, very variable. As I say, check in history if you can see when it was done, if not yet it's probably not far off !!
BTW no need to use OPC lot's of very good indi's - where are you based?
Tyres worth checking
www.blackcircle.com
well the car has done 32k miles so by my estimation the next one will be a minor service. As the major should have been done at 24k miles?
Or am I wrong??
