I bought and installed the OE Porsche front plate mount (using larger screws to better secure it).

My C2 holes were enlarged by a PO so I used these plastic Twist Lock anchors with the stock spacers and plate mount.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just purched 2001 996 turbo. My state requires a front license plate. I already have 2 square holes in the bumper. Seems very difficult to access behind the bumper. Do i need to remove the front bumper just to mount a front license plate bracket?? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated

Also Pelican has all of the parts to mount as stock or the tow hitch mount.

Expanding Nut (in Front Bumper Cover) for License Plate Bracket (2 Per Car)

In my experience, the expanding nut does not work THAT well--but you just screw it in from the front--no removing of bumper cover. I lost my plate somewhere during a major downpour (hit a puddle) here in CA. I bought a whole new setup and new plates, but the plate can still be pulled off pretty easy. I just keep it in the frunk and hope I don't get a ticket--can't justify $30+ for the bumper plugs though, either--but I hate the front plate.

Yes i agree, but dont want the hassle of being pulled over. Do you know if i would need spacers to mount the license plate bracket? Thanks for your reply
Look at the pieces listed on the Pelican page.

Everything mounts from the front.
My C2 holes were enlarged by a PO so I used these plastic Twist Lock anchors with the stock spacers and plate mount. Never came off.

NY requires it too. I haven't run a front plate for two years. Haven't been stopped yet. I keep the plate in the frunk. If I ever get stopped, will tell officer just had front bumper painted and picked car up at the shop. Going to mount plate when I get home. May not work, but sticking it on the front of the car looks like ass. Worst case, get the bracket that installs in the tow hook adapter.
Generally, I am impressed with the engineering thoroughness done by Porsche. The design of the factory front bumper plate holder, however, is a complete failure in my opinion. I bought my 2003 C2 from a previous owner in California where it had no front license plate. When I brought it back to Colorado, I needed to put a front plate on in order not to be harassed for not having one. I bought and installed the OE Porsche front plate mount (using larger screws to better secure it). What a disaster! A simple nudge on it while opening the frunk would cause it to fall off. I have struggled with this for the last 8 years, even trying JB Weld to keep it from falling off.
I looked at getting one of the tow hook systems, but I don't like the off-center look that results. I just installed the Skene Design "no holes" front bracket. Simple, and all seems well now. (

Thanks for the advise. I dont actually see my car listed on their site? Maybe i will just have to measure the bumper as they suggest, or possibly the 997 turbo might fit?? I will contact them. Thanks again
88carrera. Would you possibly be so kind to post a pic of your license plate attached, or just the mounting bracket. Did you purchase the short bracket?? Looks very straight forward. Thanks again
There are a couple of companies that make "disappearing" front license plate systems, which retract the plate under the front of the car when you don't need it:
Hi Wilbo, Yes, here are a couple of shots of my front mount, one from the side and one from the bottom. I got the "extra short" bracket.
I am happy with this bracket. It has seen 90 mph with no problem.
Good luck!
Thank you 88 carrera. Looks super clean. Im going back to the local dealer and return the bracket, spacers, and plastic bumper mounts and order the same set up you have. Thanks again for your time to reply
