Suggestion

If you want to use the new plugs supplied with the resistor you have to take quite a lot of bits off to reach the fans where the plugs are located.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I need to replace a ballast resistor on the driver side cooling fan. I have located the resistor which is tucked up just in front of the wing liner and held in place by two clips. Problem is I can't see where the cable connects to the loom. Is it reachable without removing the wing liner/ FPU ? Any advice would be most welcome. Seamus

POST 2Original post

I replaced both of mine not too long ago. The workshop manual tells you to cut the wires and splice the joints, which is by far the easiest way to do it. If you want to use the new plugs supplied with the resistor you have to take quite a lot of bits off to reach the fans where the plugs are located. I cut the cables and soldered them together, and used heat shrink tubing to seal the joints. HTH. Edit: instructions added.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Richard, Many thanks for the suggestion, I will do as you suggest. Seamus
