Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Having not used the car since boxing day due to the horrendous weather, the (new) battery was totally flat. I have a Solar powered trickle charger which appears to be useless (yes I checked the cig lighter is still live when the ignition is off). So, I opened the bonnet to put the battery charger on and as soon as I opened the bonnet the alarm started blaring. It would not deactivate with the key, I tried the key in the ignition set to the first position, no good, alarm still going off and then going off again on a continuous loop. When I got the car started and backed it out of the garage the alarm went off again with the engine running! So is there a correct sequence to follow to prevent the alarm going off in cases of a flat battery and to keep the peace with my neighbours?? Thanks

Hi Veronica (Cracking name!) See this: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=331718 ...but (briefly) it looks like you haven't put the key in the ignition and turned it on (stop before the engine turns over) before you've opened the bonnet. Assuming that you've got two sets of keys it's a good idea to just leave one in the ignition with it turned on while you fiddle about with the battery. Then see this http://www.national-hearing-services.co.uk/hearing-tests.aspx?refid=GPPC-HT&gclid=CLCDgob9qJECFRuhFQodiGQEew Cheers! Adrian.
