I have had a couple changed by tognola engineering in datchet, but its an easy job for any specialist
Leading evidence: 'Replace by tognola engineering in datchet' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'either the door is not closing up tight enough' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean door very thoroughly' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Having just renewed my Warranty (through Lisa) I suggested that this may be covered and was told that wear and tear on trim is not covered.

In terms of something to protect the sealant, I just used Porsche Rubber sealant protector.

Suspected cause
To take a wild guess, I think the problem is either the door is not closing up tight enough to the seal or as already mentioned and probably the right solution, there is a problem behind the door trim.

if you do it yourself or use a non porsche mechanic, its vital to clean the door very thoroughly to remove ALL of the old membrane and glue

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Help please....
Returned to my '04 MY C4 Cab (996) having not used it for two/three weeks and had a bit of a condensation problem. Different to last time and now the problem appears to be (in my best descriptive efforts) water in the base of the doors?? The carpet under the large speaker and running along the bottom of the inside both doors is sodden. This leads me to think water (from the wonderful British weather) has somehow entered the door and failed to escape.
Just spoken to Lisa at Reading (OPC) and she thinks it sounds as though the sills/seals have gone in the doors and I can expect about an hour and a half labour to replace them.
Having just renewed my Warranty (through Lisa) I suggested that this may be covered and was told that wear and tear on trim is not covered. They will diagnose properly when they see the car but really dont think they can put it through as a warranty item. Seems a bit unreasonable as car has only done 26K miles and is serviced through them etc.
Any ideas or am I simply missing an obviously blocked drain hole etc? The technician came back to her pretty immediately with an initial diagnosis as though this is a common problem.
Any help much appreciated as always.
p.s. this is not a warranty vs 'take a chance' thread!

Hi,
Do you park it in the elements or a garage? Rubber seals need treating otherwise they will harden and split.
If not covered by waranty get it changed at a specialist.
Hi Paul,
I have a 2000 Cab and its parked outdoors. I dont get water ingress but sometimes get condensation in the winter if I dont use the air con. I keep an eye on my seals and the seal of the window glass where it meets the cabrio hood, but in general dont have any problems there. My seals arent treated (I wouldnt know what to treat them with?) and arent in tip top condition but are okay.
Given how young your car is, it suggests to me that something might be out of alignment or blocked, rather than degredation of a seal. Is it both doors/seals? Can you trace the drips to anywhere? Does anything jump out as looking wrong if you do a basic inspection of the seals?
As for the OPC's response, dont read anything into the fact the technician "diagnosed it immediately". If I was presented by that problem on the end of the phone and wanted to earn some cash for my company, I would also come up with that response.
Good luck on the warranty claim, but I would be amazed if they honoured it, unless they found something that was blatantly their fault, and even then I doubt it.
My choice would be to get a decent indy who is also reasonable at bodywork (ie not just engine mechanics) to look at it.
Good luck, dont worry as its not a massive deal, and let us know if you pick up any other tips on keeping seals fresh or cabrio's dry.

I have owned a few cabs and not had this problem. In terms of something to protect the sealant, I just used Porsche Rubber sealant protector.
Just spray it onto the cloth and wipe it over the rubber seal....this also helps with the squeeks!!
Reading the initial problem posted, I'm not convinced that it's the seals. I personally think a grommet has come lose, or something along those lines.
A damaged seal, IMO, would not cause an excessive amount of water to come in.
Frequently it's down to leaks in the foam door liner behind the door cards.
Problems with seals are usually quite obvious as they would be visibly cracked.
In my experience its almost always the door membrane
that is if the carpet at the bottom of the door card is wet
the membranes re about £30, but OPC's charge 1.5 hours labour to fit
a bodyshop can do it no probs, but because of the air bags in the doors, they usually leave the air bag light on afterwards
I have had a couple changed by tognola engineering in datchet, but its an easy job for any specialist
Thanks for the pointers everyone. I am still curious as to why no water comes out when the grommets under the door are removed. I would have thought that water would enter via the outer window seal and run down inside the door.
All drain tubes as per the above link are fine, although the car does have a sun roof. As its only the bottom of the door panel that gets wet I will go down the membrane route via my local specialist.
Not had the car long (2000my C2 996), which was a 60th birthday present to myself. Hell, no one else was going to buy me one!!! :
Had a lot of condensation the other day, and after reading this post have found the drivers door is sodden at the bottom. The door seals look ok and I treated them with rubber restorer only a month ago. can't see any obvious places for water to get in though :? :?

Take the door card off, sit inside with a torch and the door closed then ask the butler  to stand there and point the hose on a hard spray setting! You'll soon see the leak.
I have the exact same problem on my passanger door!! I started a thead a few weeks back about STEAMY WINDOWS, as I dont use the A/C it was mentioned to use it as this could be the problem. But having owned other 996's I had a pretty good idea that using A/C was not the case.
So at the weekend I decided to give my 996 a good wash and then I searched for leaks, and eventually I found the leak at the bottom of the passanger door just below the door speaker. The door speaker carpet was soaking!!!
I dont believe the problem to be the door seal itself, as my seal is like new! To take a wild guess, I think the problem is either the door is not closing up tight enough to the seal or as already mentioned and probably the right solution, there is a problem behind the door trim. Hopefully over the next few days I'll have an answer
Yes, I saw your post Sudesh. Please let me know what your investigations show up, as there are probably lots more of us looking for answers.
I suspect that in the end some are caused by a door seal, some the membrane (and others by the "butler" washing the car).
when you take the door card off and look at the membrane it looks perfect, you wonder where the leak can be from
but you replace the membrane and its cured
if you do it yourself or use a non porsche mechanic, its vital to clean the door very thoroughly to remove ALL of the old membrane and glue
Just noticed that my drivers door is wet also, must be all ths rain. I'm due a service at the beginning of March so I'll get them to fit a new membrane then.
It's a shame that it appears to be such a 'poor' part.
