Dension vs Navtv Clarification Please!
OK folks i've heard both sides...now if anyone can definitively answer this I'd appreciate it...
I know Navtv has a bug with scrolling thru lists (playlists, artists, etc) but does the Dension unit also have that problem? ie, when you have hundreds of items in an artist list the Navtv only displays 30 or so at at time and then freezes until it refreshes to load the next 30 or so names...this is about 10 sec or more each time and is rather dangerous to work while driving...plus you can't scroll backwards in the Navtv unit...so, does the Dension work better or eliminate this problem? people who have just a gig or two might not care, but if you have lots of music to scroll thru, the Navtv unit is intolerable....thanks!
PS: to those who previously talked about this I have this quote from a respected audio Porsche/BMW installer that sort of contradicts some of the other posts here...so any first-hand clarification is appreciated:
"What you see is true. However, when you try to access the playlists, artists..etc*using CD6, you have to look at the very small text on the IPOD while scrolling using the controls on the factory radio. It also does not appear that you can browse songs within the Playlists. You can skip tracks up / down but you cannot see a list of songs. The text for the songs takes a little time to load. If you are quite convinced that the ICELINK unit is for you, I have no problems with switching it out for you (I have it in stock). But, I do not know if the ICELINK is a true answer."
Dave,
Well, i just wrote the reply below to a similar question you posted on another thread. I'll repeat my response here for your convenience. The lack of specific answers to your questions from members here may be frustrating to you as you continue to post on this topic. The reason I keep pointing you to the ******** thread is that it is more active and you are more likely to get the specific answers that you seek.
Dave,
My Dension kit is arriving today but my Cayman S is still another month or so away. If you do not get the answers you seek here, I encourage you to read and/or post to
this ******** thread
. Similar questions have been posted and responded to and the OP has been good at answering questions on the unit. The referenced thread is now 17 pages long, contains lots of good data, and continues to grow daily.

yes it is frustrating...especially when so many keep saying they have this but can't answer my specific question...anyhow, i appreciate your reply but the ******** thread didn't address my concern either...which is why i asked here...not a member of ********!
I would try to answer, but I took my cayman in to have springs put in a day or so after i installed the dension unit. i should pick up my car in a few days and i'll try to see if i can help out.
I can’t help either as my playlist are no way close to the size in question. I agree with Midnight Blue in as checking out ********’s thread for a possible answer, or post for help.

Navtv now scrolls back too!
an update to let you know that i've had my navtv updated today and the new software is a huge improvement....i advise anyone considering an ipod install to consult with their 'experienced' installer before adding either dension or navtv so they can point out the differences...!
I just have to say I LOVE using the Dension unit. It's one of the best iPod platforms I've come across. The stock kit in the 745i and the Mercedes CLK are much harder to navigate, though they do bring song titles into the center stack which is cool. The Dension is quicker at scrolling and bringing new pages up than the harman kardon bridge system on my HK receiver at home, and obviously, this is the same system in the 745 and the CLK since they both have harman kardon systems. The Dension puts the AVIC-Z1's ipod interface to shame, it's way faster. Though Pioneer plans to resolve that issue with the upcoming D3 which features a "Pod-Bus" system.
The only ipod interface I havn't tried is Alpine's and I hear good things about that system, but really, after a couple days of learning the ins an outs of this system, I am incredibly pleased.

That's great to hear Suneet! So which version of the firmware did you end up using?
1.0 still
the one it shipped with.
