so does anyone make a most fiber compatible head unit as of now?
e.g. what happens if i just unplug the
bose
head unit?
i know the
bose amp
must stay but does the
cdr24
have to exist somewhere in the car too?

You shouldn't have an issue with an '06 or newer car. In my '07 with
Bose
I can start the car without my headunit and I get no PSM or Sport mode errors.
Oh, and no, there are no aftermarket most compatible headunits and probably will never be. MOST coding used by each manufacture seems to be different,
Porsche
, VW, MB, BMW, etc all use the bus, but none of the stuff is compatible between them.

I haven't heard of any headunits that will talk on the MOST bus, but I know Directed Electronics is working on a MOST bus reader. A device that can connect to the fiber optics and produce analog audio outputs. This would allow someone to add or replace amplifiers more easily in MOST equipped cars. Unfortunately, the product has been delayed several times and there is still no definite ETA. I believe the delay is caused by patent and intelectual property issues.
This would be a nice unit to replace the PCM if it worked with MOST bus... GPS, iPod, video, bluetooth, etc.

Redeye I thought you also wanted a road kill identifier or is that part of the etc????
redeye, there's losts of posts here about the D3, it's going to be awesome for the price point. Had I not replaced my '06 sound package plus CS with an '07 with
Bose
, I was going to get the D3.
FAFNIR - Dension will come out with a patch for the gateway 500 unit for the
CDR24
headunit (no ETA); I too have the
Bose
sound plus upgrade without PCM and am waiting for this software patch.
You won't need the Dension unit if you're getting an aftermarket headunit. I don't think you have to leave the
Bose amp
in, if you want I'll unplug mine and my headunit this tuesday when I install the Dension and fire the car up. When my headunit is out and I start the car, I don't get a PSM error, that was on my05 and older cars.

I'll check tomorrow when my Dension is delivered and I install it. It's not really that you're screwed after getting the
Bose
, you can still go aftermarket it just costs a lot. The wiring is fine and can be retained, but the speakers need either those resistors or new speakers and new wiring needs to be run from the headunit to the trunk to provide signal to a new amplifier. From there, you can use the existing copper that goes to the
Bose speakers
. - Suneet
Im sorry fafnir, I can't do all that
