If you use the search for HIDS or Xenon or Bi-xenon there's loads of threads covering 993 & 996 from guys who have fitted them
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys,
New to the forum, so be gentle with me.
Looking to sell my M3 for a pre-facelift 996 soon, so thought id join up and arm myself with some helpful info from you all.
Is it possible to retrofit Xenon Headlights to a pre-face lift 996? If so, are they readily available from a porsche specialist shop or is it a case of trawling through FleeBay or the breakers yard.
If not, are there any aftermarket kits that are worth fitting that doesnt look like they have been assembled on Blue Peter lol.
Thanks in advance
Hi chainey,
welcome,
I've just fitted after market to my 964,

good luck
LOL!
I Have an E46 M3 with Sequential shift SMG2 . Nothing wrong with the M3, Its a fantastic car. Just fancied a change. Always wanted a porsche. The cheapest most practical supercar you can buy. Would love to get a newer one than the pre facelifts im looking at but thats all I will be able to afford under my current circumstances.
I will be losing alot of mod cons if i swap the M3 for a pre facelift 996, I.e bi-xenons, traction control, heated seats, big boot, 0-60 5.2 opposed to 5.4 of the early 996 and seating for 4/5 people comfortably. (obviously depending on the spec but most early cars tend not to be loaded with gear)
But I would gain Porsche's classic design and excellent handling etc etc!
Am I making a mistake?
Im in two minds myself if im honest!
Getting back to the xenons. If I buy the Bosche Litronic units from euro car parts, would it be a case of plug and play fitment? Or is there more too it than that.
I believe (and someone correct me please if I'm wrong) but Porsche released a specific retrofit kit designed for cars that didn't get Xenon's out of the factory. These don't autolevel or have washers I believe.
Possibly if you bought some from a wreckers / breaker you might find you need more than just the lights......
anyone out there done this?
Tsk tsk! :? This was the first thing I did on my car myself.
There are some easy things which you can do yourself, and there are some things which are always best left to the experts who can do a proper and good job with the correct tools!
Be careful: not all of them are the same. The 996 version came with a built-in motor that allows you to level the lights from the dashboard mounted switch.
The Boxster version came without.
Most of the eBay items are the Boxster version without the motor the 996 needs to level them.
The price difference between the two types are significant.
